Eva Longoria’s new fragrance

Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria

Actress Eva Longoria’s new perfume will hit the stores in April, just in time for Mother’s Day shopping. Coincidental? I think not.

According to WWD, Longoria, who stars on “Desperate Housewives,” has a sensitive nose and has “always been somewhat allergic to perfume.” With that in mind, she created “somethng every woman can wear.”

The top notes include citrus, neroli, bergamot tea and aldehydes, while the heart of the fragrance includes sheer jasmine, muguet, violet and freesia. The scent dries down into notes of skin musk, amber and sandalwood.

Joan Rivers to critique red carpet fashion

Joan Rivers

Joan Rivers

Guess who’s coming back to television to chat up fashion?  None other than Joan Rivers.

Yes, she’s still around and eager to critique red carpet style from the 2010 award shows.

The veteran will join Khloe Kardashian Odom, Giuliana Rancic and Jay Manuel  in providing commentary in ”Fashion Police” specials on E! Rivers will not be hosting live pre-show coverage. Ryan Seacrest will continue to do that.

Rivers’ daughter, Melisa Rivers, will be producer for the specials, which will kick off with “Fashion Police: The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards” on Jan. 18.  The one-hour special will feature a recap of the night’s best and worst fashion. I’m sure cattiness will flow like champagne on New Year’s Eve.

A week later,  the foursome will return for “Fashion Police: The 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards” on Jan. 24.

“Joan is a true entertainment icon and one of the funniest people in Hollywood. We are extremely excited to have her back at E!” said Lisa Berger, the executive vice president of entertainment programming for E! Entertainment Televison. “With this group of candid, clever and hilarious personalities, the 2010 award season is certain to bring our most outrageous ‘Fashion Police’ specials yet.”

Rivers said: “I am delighted to be back on E! and to have the opportunity to say what I think about the fashions on the red carpet. Most of all, I am thrilled to have my daughter Melissa producing.  I know with Melissa at the helm, I can relax and say what I really want.”

Tune in.

Charles Oakley talks NBA style in Details magazine

Former NBA player Charles Oakley

Former NBA player Charles Oakley

With an NBA presence in Oklahoma City, many of us are paying more attention to basketball. Especially Thunder basketball.

When the Hornets found a safe haven here from New Orleans a few years ago, I wrote a story on the players’ personal style and how they felt about  the regulations requiring them to dress a certain way when representing the NBA.

Now comes clotheshorse and former NBA player Charles Oakley, who shares his opinion on the state of style for NBA players, coaches and owners in Details magazine. He gives points to Tyson Chandler and Kobe Bryant. Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban can’t seem to be buy good style.

Read Oakley’s critiques and watch the slide show.

Tag Heuer keeps a watch on Tiger Woods

tiger woodsTag Heuer is tagging along with Tiger Woods.

The Swiss watch brand plans to “continue its relationship” with the troubled golf star, who has been a brand ambassador since 2002, according to Women’s Wear Daily. In respect to Woods’ desire for privacy, Tag said  it plans to “modify” Woods’ role in the coming months’ marketing programs.

“The partnership with Tiger Woods will continue,” said Jean-Christophe Babin, president and chief executive of Tag Heuer, “but we will downscale the use of his image in certain markets for a period of time, depending on his decision about returning to professional golf. We will continue to actively support the Tiger Woods Foundation.” The company said its relationship with Woods has always been “extremely professional and productive.”

Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric … fashion influences?

Diane Sawyer

Diane Sawyer

Come Monday, Diane Sawyer will be anchoring the ABC World News. Katie Couric already sits on the throne at CBS Evening News.  So, will these two well-dressed women have an influence on what you and I wear? That seems to be a question that some in the fashion industry are pondering.

Women’s Wear Daily says designers are eager to get their clothes on these two high-profile women.

Elie Tahari seems to have it zipped up already.

“I plan to dress them. This is the year of the woman. Both Diane and Katie are wearing our clothes — quite often. We don’t send clothes to anybody. They buy them. I think these two women are confident, dress smartly, are stylish, graceful, elegant and modern. It’s very good for business. [The broadcasts] go to everybody’s living room and women are looking at women–it’s stimulating for style and fashion. With men, they’re in a suit and tie, and it’s boring.”

Designer Diane von Furstenberg isn’t sure that the two female anchors will have any impact on the clothing industry.

“I think it’s great for women,” she said. “Whether it’s great for fashion, I don’t know.”
