Sarah Jessica Parker is staying busy with 6-month-old twin daugthers, a 7-year-old son and a busy career. Her film “Did You Hear About the Morgans?” opened before Christmas and fans are awaiting the arrival of “Sex and the City 2.”

The actress talked about family, career and fashion with the UK’s Daily Mail. Here’s one of my favorite quotes:

Fashion is not the focus of my life. I dress like a lot of mothers – quickly! – and hope to be presentable and not embarrass my son; honestly, that’s my only goal. I am sure I am a disappointment to many people, but not to my son. I will always love a beautiful dress, but I haven’t shopped in a really long time. I borrow clothes from designers for special events – it’s like the library, you return them in good faith, then you get to borrow more.

It’s no secret that I really like designer Isaac Mizrahi. The runway shows he used to stage during New York Fashion Week were so much fun.

Another designer who pulled all stops was Bob Mackie.  One of  my favorite shows was a Las Vegas-themed extravaganza. I hummed ”Viva Las Vegas” for days.

Mackie no longer does runway shows, but the guy who once dressed Cher, Carol Burnett and Diana Ross has a line of clothing on QVC.

He’s also getting a humanitarian award in Florida. I came across a great story about Mackie in the Palm Springs Life magazine. You’ll never guess which singer is a  fan of his clothes today.   Read the story here.

Tyra Banks … turning off her talk show gig

Tyra Banks

Tyra Banks

Tyra Banks took a cue from Oprah Winfrey and made a big announcement.

The model-turned-empire-builder took to her Twitter page today to tell her 832,074 followers that the fifth season of  “The Tyra Show” will be its last.

Banks will continue her nighttime hosting duties on the upcoming 14th “cycle” of “America’s Next Top Model” and work on her beauty pageant reality show, the “True Beauty.” She compared this decision to when she walked away from the fashion industry, according to WWD.com.

“Several years ago I made the decision to leave modeling — at the height of my modeling career,” Banks wrote in a letter posted on Tyra.com, “and although it was the most terrifying move, it was the BEST decision and led to me fulfilling some big lifelong dreams. Now, I’m a bit nervous and excited for my next HUGE steps which will allow me to reach MORE women and young girls to help us all feel as fierce as we truly are!”

“I wish I could tell you about ALL of the new stuff,” the former model wrote on Tyra.com, “but there are people here with me now telling me to stop typing and keep my lips shut about our new projects!”

Banks, who had been considered a frontrunner in the race to replace Oprah (who last month announced the end of her longrunning syndicated talk fest when her contract expires in 2011), did tip her hat to the original daytime diva, according to WWD.com. , “Before I go, I have to pay homage to the ultimate Queen of Talk, Oprah, who made a huge impact on my life by giving me my first shot in daytime TV…We will all miss her show so much. And to you Oprah: You have had, and continue to have, such an amazing impact on me. I salute you.”

Mardi Grape … hot new color of 2010

Mardi Grape ... the color of 2010, according to Color Marketing Group

It was just about three weeks ago that the Pantone Color Institute named turquoise the color of 2010.

Now comes word from the Color Marketing Group that the hot new color for 2010 is grape. If you want to be specific, it’s Mardi Grape.

Color Marketing Group, a leading international organization of color design professionals, has been predicting color trends for 47 years.

Mardi Grape is a crossover between purple, brown and gray. It’s a transfer from fashion with European roots, according to the color association.  Chosen by hundreds of color professionals as CMG’s 2010 Next Color, Mardi Grape used to be a fashion color.  Now, it’s all set to be the year’s star color for everything else.

“Purple has been with us for a while now, but the big story today is that we’re seeing purple as a neutral for the very first time, said James Martin, president of Color Marketing Group. “This purple is browner and grayer, a neutral we can love long-term.   These days everyone is seeking versatile colors with staying power.  Colors used to be the focus while neutrals were the understudies.  Today, neutrals are the lead performers, chameleon colors that shift and change.”

According to CMG, look for these additional color trends in 2010:

Red – Reds are strong with pink intuition; bright and clean with energy and excitement –   a clean pop to go with neutrals.

Orange – A rich, sophisticated color that moves away from earth-based colors to an optimistic orange, seasoned with a touch of gray.

Yellow – A greener, more natural yellow, softened with gray.

Green – Optimistic and uplifting, a clear and bright accent green with a slight shift toward blue.

Blue – A saturated blue with gray influences; rich without being too luxe.

Beige-Brown – A true chameleon to complement darker hues, it can be either matte or metallic.

Neutral-Gray – Gray with a touch of purple, drawing inspiration from mineral, concrete and steel.

Michelle Obama’s year in fashion

Much has been written about Michelle Obama’s sense of style since her husband first announced his bid for presidency. The hoopla snowballed since then. And it’s not stopping.

America’s future does not hang on the first lady’s fashion. But a final grade for Princeton University senior Julie Flynn does, according to a story in the Chicago Tribune.

“I decided to write about Mrs. Obama’ss style because I love to shop and I am interested in fashion,” Flynn, a history major from Westwood, Mass., said of her semester-ending project for her journalism class.

For most, the fascination with the first lady’s clothes is as simple as that.

“It’s sort of the high-brow end of celebrity watching,” said Sasha Iglehart, fashion director for Glamour magazine.

For others, Obama’s bold colors, brooches and biceps represent a national agenda.

Admirers and detractors alike see her bare arms as her most symbolic fashion gesture thus far.

Evian dancing babies commercial most memorable

I love this commercial. Makes me smile. A lot of others, too. A new media study among 316 viewers of three commercials from the Wall Street Journal’s list of the top five ads of 2009 revealed that the majority of viewers (67%) rated the Evian ad featuring dancing babies to be the most memorable.
