Sassoon … a cut above

Vidal Sassoon practically became a household name in the 1960s and 1970s, and no wonder. Women had been used to teasing and setting their hair, and he offered a new ease with a precision cut.

Sassoon’s philosophy continues today and is being taught at the Academy of Hair Design in Northpark Mall.  Sally Rogerson, senior creative director for the Sassoon Academy in Los Angeles, was in Oklahoma City recently to lead classes for students and stylists.

Sassoon also stresses the importance of education for stylists of all ages. When seeking a stylist, Rogerson said it’s important to ask about continuing education, where a stylist trains. Education should be ongoing, she said.

“We train hairdresses who have been cutting hair for 6 weeks to 50 years,” she said.

The connection schools raise the bar with training, she said.
