Gap rips old jeans styles and introduces 12 new styles

Gap's new Curvy jeans

Gap's new Curvy jeans

Gap has been in the news lately. And the news hasn’t been about sales, profits or stores.  This is news that I think you’ll find interesting. It’s about jeans.  Twelve new denim styles.

Check out the story, especially if you’re a fan of Gap jeans or if you’re always on the hunt for that perfect pair of jeans.

NEW YORK (AP) — Your favorite Gap jeans are gone. What they’ve been replaced with, boasts executive vice president of design Patrick Robinson, are jeans “that will change your life.”

The retailer literally scrapped every single pattern it had for jeans, ranging from infant to adult, and started again from scratch. Some of the nicknames for the new 1969 Premium Jeans styles are the same, including “Curvy” and “Long and Lean,” but the cut, fabric, washes and fit are different.

Prices are a little higher too: They start at $54.50 for men’s and $59.50 for women.

For women, the rear view was important — it’s the first thing a woman checks out, says Rada Shadick, Gap’s senior director of technical design. Eliminating gaping backs at the waist, extra pouches at the top of the inner thigh and getting rid of any “back drag,” volume that goes from the seat to the top of the rear thigh, were all priorities.

For men, it’s all about comfort, so there is still room in the thigh. Robinson personally favors the slim-leg “Authentic” cut, and says he made it a priority to turn Gap’s jeans into a premium denim collection.

“Gap was giving you jeans for only one part of your life — the casual. Denim has changed,” he says. “I now need jeans for casual, brunch with friends, going to a bar, going on a date and going to work, and so do you.”

Let it rain … we’re photographing fall fashion inside

We’re photographing fall fashion this morning. So glad we’re shooting in our studio. It’s raining big-time, and if we had scheduled an outside shoot, I would be crying as I write this.

So, are you already thinking about fall fashion? If so, what items are you most excited about adding to your wardrobe?

Falling for fall fashion

Oscar de la Renta Fall 2009

Oscar de la Renta Fall 2009

I’ve got fall fashion on my mind.

Never mind that temperatures will be in the 90s all week, I’m getting up close and personal with sheaths reminiscent of the 1960s, leggings, ’80s  bobo, cinched waists, extra-large accessories, knits, strong shoulders, men’s fabrics, military, metallics, capes and capelets, boots, stilettos and tapered heel shoes.

We’re photographing fall fashion for OKC N Style on Tuesday, so I’m covered up with cool-weather clothes and accessories. And let me just say the clothes for fall look fabulous. I can understand why Oklahoma City retailers say women already are snatching up their favorites.  I’ll be following suit soon.

Kristin Chenoweth and her Oklahoma pillow

Check out this Oklahoma pillow that was given to Oklahoma-born actress Kristin Chenoweth. I know Christmas is a few months off, but this generously sized pillow would make a great gift.
