Reality shows are so much more fun when you can cheer for someone with an Oklahoma connection, even if it’s a tiny one. So here’s your local connection on “Project Runway” – Shirin Askari, 24, was born in Tulsa.

The aspiring designer lives in Richardson, Texas, and is competing for the prize package, which includes $100,000 cash to start a fashion line and a trip to Paris.

For the season opener on Lifetime last week, the challenge was to design an innovative red carpet  look representing the designer’s point of view. The budget? $200.

“I was so excited when I found out we were doing a red carpet challenge because that’s my dream to make Oscar dresses,” she said on the video blog posted on mylifetime.com.
