Thigh-high boots … only in my dreams

In my next life, or maybe in my dreams tonight, I’m so going to have the body to wear these thigh-high boots. And the dress.

How much did you pay for those jeans?

Some aspects of the fashion industry continue to do well. Women’s jeans sales in the United States rose 4.6 percent to $8.03 billion and sales of men’s jeans stayed steady at $5.32 billion, according to the NPD Group.

“I think what we’re beginning to see is that denim has  life of its own,” Marshal Cohen, NPD’s chief industry analyst, told WWD. “I don’t want to say recession-proof, but it was able to sustain whatever growth it had.”

Now for the surprising part.  The average price women paid for jeans declined 1.6 percent o $23.44 from $23.83 last year, according to NPD.

Red carpet walkers at “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”

It’s difficult to get away from Harry Potter hoopla, so it makes sense that the movie premiere of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” would bring out some well-knowns.   Here’s a peek at who stopped to pose on the red carpet.  Read the Fashion Wire Dailystory here.

Jon Gosselin to design children’s wear line

Jon Gosselin

Several weeks ago, I wondered aloud here if Jon and Kate Gosselin could be starting a children’s clothing line.  What triggered it was all the e-blasts I kept getting about the famous parents of eight children. They weren’t in fashion — or were they?

Now comes word that Jon Gosselin has been keeping company not only with his girlfriend, Hailey Glassman, the daughter of the plastic surgeon who performed Kate’s tummy tuck in 2006, but with Christian Audigier, designer for Ed Hardy. According to People magazine, Gosselin and Glassman were in the French Riviera so he could complete a deal to design his own line of children’s clothes with Audigier.

Oh, but the story gets more interesting. He told the magazine that Glassman would have a lot of input with the designer, and “I will too.” He also said his children will model his designs in ads.

Haute couture … top this if you can

I thought the idea of accessories was to complete an outfit, not draw attention away from it. I’m wondering if this topper is the haute couture of choice for a woman suffering not only from a bad hair day but a no makeup day as well.

Eden Salon named one of top 100 salons in America

Kudos to Eden Salon in Oklahoma City for being named one of the top 100 salons in the United States by Elle magazine. The other Oklahoma salon to make the list was Ross Edward Salon in Tulsa. Many states had just one listing, so for two Oklahoma salons to make the list is way cool.

Face and body mists … a must when it’s 100 degrees

Evian mstIt’s hot outside. The projected high temperature is 105 today, 104 on Sunday and 102 on Monday.

When it gets this hot, one of my go-to products is a hydrating mist.  I even carry a travel size in my handbag. Just a quick spritz equals instant hydration for my body and face.  It doesn’t mess up my makeup or my hair either, and it makes me feel at least 10 degrees cooler.

One of my favorites is still the original, Evian Brumisateur facial spray, but plenty of others are available including Burt’s Bees Carrot Seed Oil Complexion Mist and Aveda Caribbean Therapy Flower Water.

You can even keep a bottle in the refrigerator for those times when you need to chill out.

John Galliano for Dior … inspiring collection

A model presents a creation by British fashion designer John Galliano for Dior's Haute Couture Fall Winter 2009-2010 fashion collection, presented in Paris.

John Galliano, designer for Christian Dior, got a lot of help with his haute couture fall show in Paris. His inspiration was photos of an earlier generation of models. He happened upon archive photos featuring Monsieur Dior with a group of his favorite models in various sages of undress, according to The Daily Fix.

“We even discovered an image of Marlene Dietrich in a tuxedo with suspender straps attached to the bottom, the better to keep the jacket perfectly tight. Once I saw that, I was flying,” laughed Galliano, dressed in dark Brioni three-piece suit.

The result was a spectacular show staged in the upstairs salon of Dior’s classic headquarters on avenue Montaigne, where half the models appeared in tights with underwear, knickers, panties, straps or corsets in flesh tones or polkadots. Worn with a series of boleros, trench-dresses and reefer jackets, the overall look was sinfully racy, said The Daily Fix.

Galliano also enjoyed a great assist from hatter Stephen Jones, who created enormous bow-tie hats and feathered numbers.
