Chill out? More like thaw out

I drove home yesterday without air conditioning. My choice. I was so cold at the office that I needed that time to thaw out.

I had worn a flimsy feminine blouse with elbow-length sleeves and pants. Of course, that was the day the air conditioning vent above my desk blasted me from early morning to late afternoon. Even the papers on my desk were waving in the breeze.

I often wear a jacket to the office, even during the summer. But all the feminine blouses looked so cute this season that I bought two. And they are a nice change from another jacket.

Today, I’m back in a jacket. I needed the armor. Now if someone will please adjust the air conditioning.

The Nudes … a new collection from Bobbi Brown

Bobbi Brown's new Nudes Collection.“Nude makeup never goes out of style — it’s polished, sophisticated and always looks modern.”

So says makeup guru Bobbi Brown, who got everyone’s attention back in the day with her nude approach to makeup. Now comes her newest take on nude makeup with the 2009 Nudes Collection.

“Nude makeup doesn’t mean monochromatic, barely-there makeup. It means makeup that’s right for your skin,” she said.

Brown’s new limited-edition eye palette for fall ($60) features eye shadow duos in a universally flattering selection of shades and textures. She also introduced a new Nude Shimmer Brick ($40) to her popular Shimmer Brick collection. Pearl pigments in pink, gold, bronze, beige and caramel are designed to be blended together to give all skin tones a soft nude, lit-from-within glow.

The Nudes Collection also includes Caviar Ink Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner ($21) in a rich, deep brown shade, and four new shades of Creamy Lip Color ($22) that complement the Nude Eye Palette and Nude Shimmer Brick.

These products will be available in July.  In Oklahoma City, Bobbi Brown is sold at Balliet’s, 50 Penn Place, and Dillard’s, Penn Square Mall.

Physicians Formula goes bronze with new collection

Physicians Formula is making it easy to get your bronze on this summer with several new products.

Joanna Schlip,  Physicians Formula celebrity makeup artist whose clients include Christina Applegate, Laura Linney and Eva Longoria Parker to name a few, offers these tips and ways to get a great summer look.

TREND: MAKE EYES POP WITH A WASH OF WARM, RADIANT BRONZE

A subtle application of bronze shimmer shadow is right on trend for summer. Bronzed eyes are softer, super sexy and much easier to apply than a stronger color such as black. You want to try a wash of bronze shimmer shadow on the top of your lids (using a brush or your clean finger tip).  Now take the same shade and sweep gently under the lower lashes to make your eyes pop – think “smudged” instead of “smoky.” And remember, it does not have to be perfect.  To complete the look, curl lashes, apply two coats of black mascara and you are out the door.

TIP: Make sure the shadow is applied starting right above eyelashes and take it up just past the crease. Be case though — if you apply it any higher, the look will go from being trendy to clownish.

TREND: A SUBTLE GLOW… EVEN WHEN A VACATION ISN’T AN OPTION

It’s not as easy these days to jet off for a weekend getaway, but you don’t want your only glow to come from the light of a computer screen either. The solution? Fake it with a subtle, natural-looking bronzer – one that will make friends ask which beach you visited.

TIP: For a subtle glow that is polished, not overdone, use bronzer that offers gorgeous color and one that offers a mistake-proof formula. Picking the correct bronzer will give the illustion of a soft, smooth surface. Sweep it across cheeks, forehead, nose and chin, neck and chest for a healthy looking fresh finish. Use it to create some cleavage as well.

Farrah Fawcett … great hair and more

farah1

There was more to Farrah Fawcett than great hair. But her hair was one of her defining features. She captured hearts in the 1970s as one of “Charlie’s Angels.” Her trademark hair was fluffy and feathered with lots of flip.

Women of all ages flocked to salons to get the new cut. The big item of the day: hot rollers, a must if you wanted the Farrah ’do.  Women with short hair let theirs grow. Women everywhere wanted to look like Farrah. Guys just wanted to look at her.

Variations of the style have resurfaced during the years, most recently this spring. Eva Longoria, Tori Spelling and Charlize Theron all sported a softer version with less volume, waves curled away from the face and just a bit of feathering.

Fawcett died Thursday after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was 62. She left the televison series “Charlie’s Angels” after one season, and some questioned if the blond bombshell would ever work again.  She took her head full of hair and flashy smile and showed them what she had in the 1980s and ’90s, receiving acclaim for dramatic stage and screen roles.
