Fashion Week plans big move to Lincoln Center

Starting in September 2010, Fashion Week will be in a new location. The mega event  is moving out of the tents in Bryant Park to a more spacious setting in Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park.

Bryant Park has been the hub of Fashion Week since 1993. The huge circus-like tents brought most of the fashion designers together in one place. Instead of running from uptown to downtown to 7th Avenue showrooms, fashion press gathered in the tents where shows in three different venues were staged. The tents lacked the intimacy of the showrooms and the opulence of the Plaza Hotel, but the convenience was great. I loved it, and so did every fashion writer I know.

In total, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week draws about 100,000 people to the tents each year, generating $466 million in visitor spending.
