10 cheap and easy beauty fixes
Puffy eyes? Dark under eye circles? Help is as close as the kitchen.
Dr. David Bank, founder and director of the Center for Dermatology , Cosmetic and Laser Surgery and author of of “Beautiful: Every Woman’s Guide to Looking Her Best at Any Age,” offers these quick and easy tips for fixing your skin at home in less than 5 minutes.
1. Puffy eyes. Soak some cotton pads in cold milk and place on the eyes for 5 minutes to soothe them and reduce puffiness.
2. Bad blemish. Combine one-quarter teaspoon of table salt with one cup of water. Dip a piece of tissue into the mixture and press against blemish for one minute.
3. Red spots. Apply a small amount of Afrin decongestant nose spray to the red blemish. It will get the red out within 30-60 seconds and last up to 12 hours.
4. Cold sore. Mix regular foundation with a few drops of moisturizer and apply with a damp cosmetic sponge or Q-tip. Apply lip balm or lipstick with a Q-tip to avoid contamination.
5 Break outs. Hold a warm compress on the break out for 5 minutes to open it up. Once open, it should go away in 24 hours.
6. Out of zit cream. Dab Neosporin or other anti-bacterial products found in your medicine cabinet on the pimple to clear up the affected area. Stay away from the toothpaste! It will dry out your skin but does nothing to unblock your pores, where the problem lies.
7. Body odor. Apply your deodorant at night before you go to bed. Your body temperature is higher so the deodorant will penetrate more deeply into the sweat duct. It will continue to block wetness the next day even if you shower.
8. Dark under eye circles. Makeup helps but for lasting results apply an eye cream with caffeine in it under the eye. Rub in for 15 seconds. No eye cream? Ttry tea bags.
9. Dry skin. Slather on a rich moisturizer when your skin is still damp from your bath and shower. Takes just a few minutes and the damp skin helps trap and hold the moisture in better.
10. No body moisturizer. Extra Virgin Olive Oil will do the trick.
