Getting organized one closet at a time
I just spoke with organizing guru Deniece Schofield, who will be in the Oklahoma City area Jan. 5 and 6 to present Get Organized seminars. I’ll be writing a story later on how being organized can save you money, but what I’m hoping is that our conversation will motivate me to tackle my closets — and maybe clean out the refrigerator.
Schofield has written four books on organization, so she knows her stuff. One side effect of being organized is that people are more happy and less stressed, she said. Who among us couldn’t do with a little less stress in our lives and more happiness?
I’ll pass along detailed information on the seminars as soon as its finalized. Meanwhile, I think I’ll tackle my bedroom closet while I’m off during the holidays.
New year, fewer fine lines and wrinkles
If your New Year’s resolution is going to be to tackle those fine lines and such, here’s a start. RoC Multi-Correxion Night Treatment works while you sleep to diminish fine lines and wrinkles. I wonder if it’s sold in supersize portions? The treatment also enhances elasticity and improves brightness. The company says use of the retinol product also further diminishes dark circles, brown spots and the appearance of pores.
Another product worth a second look — or maybe it’s a product that will help you get second looks– is RoC CompleteLift Serum. In just one week, the company says, skin will be visibily lifted, and firmness and elasticity improved. Apply after cleansing for it to work its magic.
Prices range from $22.99 to $24.99 at drug stores.

Bill Blass closing its doors
Designer Bill Blass acknowledges audience applause after the presentation of his spring 2000 collection, his final runway show, in New York on Sept. 16, 1999.
The Bill Blass fashion company is closing, reports The New York Times.
This is a sad day in the fashion industry. I remember when Bill Blass retired and showed his last collection on the runway in New York City. That was nearly 10 years ago. The company has gone through several designers who have tried to fill Bill’s shoes, but, alas, that may have been an impossible task.
The Times says the showroom on Seventh Avenue will close and the remaining staff are expected to leave this week.
Michael Vollbracht designed the line from 2003 to 2007. During Fashion Week in February ’04, two other fashion writers and myself went to his office for a group interview. He wanted to put his own stamp on the signature Bill Blass classic, timeless styles, and he had more success than the other designers.
Blass, the man behind one of the most successful, enduring licensed brands in Amercia, died in 2002. Now his namesake company is gone.
Going Somewhere? Packing Tips for any Trip!
In light of a trip I am about to take with my family (as I’m sure many of you will also be traveling during the holiday season), I thought it would be a great idea to give packing advice. The challenge of packing for any trip is being prepared for different scenarios without bringing your entire wardrobe! In order to meet the challenge without paying the extra $25 fee for your luggage weighing over 50 pounds, there are a few basic rules to follow. First and foremost it is always a good idea to pack your favorite pieces. That being said, its always a bad idea to pack that new shirt you bought three months ago (yes, the one with the tags still perfectly in tact) that you have yet to wear. Despite it being frigidly cold outside this time of year, it is best to pack light sweaters over thick sweaters. Layering two thin sweaters gives the same warmth as one thick suitcase-hogging sweater. In regards to fabric choice, it is better to pack wrinkle-resistant knits, than wovens. What about shoes? Pack a maximum of three pairs; two in your suitcase, one on your feet. This makes you think through potential outfits prior to loading your luggage. Last but certainly not least, bottoms. You will have to decide on pants or skirts depending the interest of your trip. Whichever you chose, pack two. One versatile pant or skirt and one that will dress up any outfit.
And of course, do not forget your necessities such as your toothbrush!
