FAO Schwarz comes to Macy’s in Penn Square Mall
For the fall and holiday season, FAO Schwarz is opening shops at select Macy’s stores. The Macy’s in Penn Square Mall in Oklahoma City is the only state store to feature the shop.
The FAO Schwarz shops will carry everything from a tin drum ($14) to flatbed truck with front-end loader ($20) to a safari playhouse ($40). The selection is limited — about 60 to 120 items — depending on the size of the store.
Here’s some FAO Schwarz trivia:
* The name FAO Schwarz is a tribute to Frederick August Otto Schwarz, who founded the company in 1862.
* Schwarz and his three brothers traveled to the U.S. from Germany to each open their own Toy Bazaar store in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Boston and New York.
* In 1876, Schwarz published the stores first catalog, but it was only for the stores most loyal clientele.
*The company is 146 years old, making it the oldest toy store in the United States.
* Before settling where it is today at 767 Fifth Ave. , the FAO Schwarz flagship store in New York had 10 previous locations, including one store which was located where the Empire State Building stands today.
