Lauren Hutton teams again with the Olsen twins
Guess who’s the face of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s next ad campaign for The Row, their upscale clothing line?
None other than former supermodel Lauren Hutton, who just happens to 64. The twins, 22, said they found her ageless beauty an
d style irrestible. “She’s older and she’s beautiful, and that is sexy to us,” Ashley said.
Hutton reportedly will walk in the fashion shows, too. Lauren has worked with the twins before, posing for The Row’s Spring 2008 look book and doing a photo shoot with Mary-Kate in Harper’s Bazaar.

Protect your pucker this winter
You’ve heard it before, but here it is again. Protect your lips.
In cold, dry weather, lips don’t trap and hold moisture well, leaving them prone to dryness and cracking. “Lips need attention year round because they produce less oils and melanin, the natural skin pigment
that screens out the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays,” said Dr. Erin Welch, assistant professor of dermatology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. “Not to mention, excessive exposure to the sun, regardless of the season, also causes lips to lose their natural, healthy color. This can be avoided by wearing lip balm with SPF on a daily basis year round.”
To protect your pout, follow the doctor’s orders:
* Wet your whistle: Make sure you drink a lot of water (at least 64 ounces a day).
* Resist the lick: The worst solution for chapped lips is to lick them. “While you may think the moisture will be helpful, saliva does not actually moisturize, and its evaporation actually dries out lips even more, Welch said.
* Protect your pucker: “Always use a quality lip balm with a high SPF that also contains the ingredient dimethicone,” he said. Remember to apply before going outside, before going to sleep, and after eating or drinking.
* SPF for the slopes: Whether snowboarding, skiing or ice skating, your lips are being exposed to extreme temperatures, sun and wind, which ultimately causes automatic moisture loss. The sun’s UV rays are stronger at higher altitudes, and snow intensifies the rays by reflecting it back onto your face. Lip protection with SPF is a must on the slopes.

Drink up: Evian introduces designer bottle
I didn’t make it to Paris Fashion Week, alas, and therefore missed the launch of the newest Evian Natural Spring Water designer bottle collection for 2009.
The newest addition is the Evian Pret-a-Porter Bottle and the Evian Haute Couture Bottle by Jean Paul Gaultier. The Pret-a-Porter, or ready-to-wear, bottle is said to possess a style that is classic, yet modern and adorned with a pattern of interlocking snowflakes. The bottle recalls the crisp, icy mountain tops of the French Alps from which Evian Natural Spring Water is derived.
Only seven of the Haute Couture Bottles will be released worldwide, with the carafes traveling around the globe to be exhibited at select locations. The collection will then be auctioned off with proceeds benefitting the Evian Water Protection Institute, which restores and maintains wetlands.
The Gaultier bottles follow the highly successful Limited Edition Evian Bottle by Christian Lacroix.
To order the Gaultier Pret-a-Porter and the Christian Lacroix bottles, go to shopevian.com. Price per bottle is $13.95. Drink up and enjoy!
Max Azria and Dallas Fashion Award winners
DALLAS — Max Azria received the Fashion Excellence Award for his Herve Leger collection Saturday evening during the Dallas Fashion Awards gala.
Azria moved to the United States in 1981 after 11 years of designing a women’s wear line in his native Paris. In 1989 he opened his own design house, BCBG Max Azria. Today, the BCBG Max Azria Group has 22 brands, including Herve Leger, which Azria bought 10 years ago.
He relaunched the label in 2007 and kept the signature “bandage dresses,” which have been a hit with can’t-pinch-an-inch young celebrities. These figure-hugging dresses are comprised of stretchy strips covering the body, thus the name. The Herve Leger spring ’09 fashion show was also presented on the runway.
Azria said reviving the Herve Lager label had been a rewarding challenge. “I look forward to making women feel empowered and beautiful.”
Other Dallas Fashion Award winners:
Casual contemporary: Taka
After 5: Marc Bouwer GLAMIT! (“In this economy, we’re all winners,” he said.)
Jewelry: Devn Leigh
Modernwear: Lynn Ritchie
Children’s wear: Florence Eiseman
Contemporary: Kenzie
Accessories: Sondra Roberts
Bride/designer: Zelda
Fashion will survive … it always does
DALLAS — What’s in store for spring?
David Wolfe, creative director for the Donegar Group, a trend forecasting company, says fashion is all over the place and people are concerned about the economy. So we take a look at the past and try to decipher the future.
In the 30s, during the Great Depression, fashion was far from depressing. It was bright and bold, more elegant and more luxurious. Expect that for spring.
Ensembles — a total look from head to toe — are coming back. Elegance endures.
Accessories are being played up even more than ever. Women are embracing prints (we all need a little eye candy right now).
During the 1940s and World War II, fashion survived the Blitz and the Occupation. Tailored femininity came into its own, and Wolfe says those are two words we need to remember as we go forward. Clothes that are tailored, practical and timeless.
Of course, there are timelss, feminine clothes today, but most women don’t recognize them in the magazines because they’re being modeled by 12-year-old girls with funny hair and makeup.
Good point.
But, he says, fashion will survive despite a suffering economy and rising food prices. It has before and it will again.
An early look at spring fashion
I’m not sure what the weather is like in OKC, but in Dallas, it’s a beautiful clear day with the high expected to be in the low -70s and even warmer on Saturday. Almost spring-like.
It seems fitting since I’m at the Dallas Market Center to see spring fashion and accessories. This morning, Gregor Simmons of Gregor Simmons Ltd. buying office in New York City, said she’s excited about all the color (pinks and oranges), longer skirts and maxi dresses.
Of course, she also said super-short shorts are coming on strong for spring. That’s a trend best left to the firm of flesh and under 20 crowd.
Lucky you if you happen to be in NYC for Lucky Shops event
As much as I would like to, I wouldn’t book a flight to New York City just to take in Lucky magazine’s fifth annual Lucky Shops on Nov. 7-8.
But if I had plans to be in the Big Apple on those dates — or anywhere near – you can bet I’d be at the event. How could I pass up bargain designer merchandise, jeans fittings and help taming my brows?
Last year’s event drew more than 10,000 shoppers from 35 states. While designer merchandise at up to 70 percent off is the big attraction, shoppers are also treated to music, giveaways and complimentary drinks.
Designer fashions from Tracy Reese, Vera Wang Lavender, See by Chloe and more will be for sale, along with home decor, accessories, jewelry, beauty items, fragrances, jeans, bags and shoes, with brands such as Dr. Martens, Kate Spade and Nine West.
But that’s not all. A boutique will offer gently used designer and one-of-a-kind items from Chanel, Jimmy Choo, Armani and others, while a Lucky Denim Bar will help with jeans fittings (including a free hemming while you wait). Any purchase of Benefit cosmetics will get you professional eyebrow help at the brow bar.
Lucky Shops will at the Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 W 18 Street, and a portion of the proceeds go to benefit the Robin Hood Foundation, which targets poverty in New York City.
Tickets for Nov. 7, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., are $35, while tickets for Nov. 8, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., are $20. Click here for videos and photographs from last year’s event.
