Fabulous Friday: A freebie for you
I can think of no better way to celebrate this beautiful Oklahoma day than with a product giveaway.
What I pulled from my goody bag is Sovage Tummy Flattening Gel, which is specifically developed for direct applicition to problem areas of the body. The product retails for $119. (Yes, you read that correctly.) Package info says the gel permits you to reduce the appearance of bulging pockets of unsightly fat wherever they appear. You can even apply to a double chin!
I’ve not heard raves or disappointments about this product, so if you’re the lucky winner, I’ll wait to hear from you whether it works or not.
Just send an e-mail with your name and mailing address to fashionmatters@oklahoman.com. I’ll draw a winner from the e-mails I receive. Deadline is Nov. 7.
Target T-shirts, a cheap thrill
An update on the super lightweight Mossimo Black tissue T-shirts from Target I wrote about recently.
I bought a black, long-sleeve scoop neck style, and I’ve worn it twice. It washed up great and looked nice under my 3/4-length gold jacket. For $9.99, it’s a winner. I’m hoping to pick up a few more colors this weekend. What do you think of this plum?

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen launch new coffee table book
Here’s a holiday gift suggestion if there’s anyone on your list who loves fashion, is interested in designers or the Olsen twins, who have been in the spotlight since they were babies.
“Influence” ($35) is a collection of their influences and contains 20 profiles of their icons, including Lauren Hutton, Karl Lagerfild, Diane von Furstenberg and John Galliano.
While the book contains plenty of pictures of the twins, who are now 22, throughout their career, the book is mostly about others. To listen to a podcast with the Olsens, click here
Shoulders back, chest out … it’s easier with Bralief
Who among us hasn’t had to fiddle with bra straps because they keep falling down or tug at the back of the bra because it keeps riding up?Maybe you’ve heard of Bralief, a bra clip designed to lift breasts of any size, though it’s especially supportive of large, heavy breasts. The clip slips around the back straps of your bra for a racerback look and feel. Voila, instant perky!
Press info says women of all sizes will benefit from Bralief’s ability to relieve pressure off the shoulders and lower back and promote better posture. Another plus, it keeps the straps from falling off the shoulders.
And if you’ve got a bra that’s starting to get stretched out, Bralief can provide a lift and added support. The bra clip is available in black, tan, white and pink and white. Twenty percent of net sales of the Cotton Candy Bralief will be donated to breast cancer research.
Cost is $9.95 or a three-pack for $22.95. For more information and to watch a video, go online to www.thebraclip.com.
A new USA lapel pin
Maybe you love the flag pin, maybe not. Here’s something new. A pin that celebates the USA.
Men’s Vouge commissioned graphic designer Michael Bierut to design the pin in an attempt to end the flag pin flap. “I tried to defamiliarize a very configuration of letters,” he said, referring to his unconventional, interwoven font – inspired by the country’s history as a melting pot.
Five thousand of the pins are available for $10 exclusively at www.mensvogue.com/go/pin. Proceeds benefit Puppies Behind Bars, whose work includes aiding veterans of the Iraq War.
Peace soap … feel the love
You can’t walk into a store these days without seeing peace signs — on jewelry, T-shirts, even sleep wear and undies.
Now the sign is showing up on bar soap. Peace soap … just bubble up some love and wash away hate. If only.
Retailing for about $8, the soap is made with organic aloe vera juice and has a fresh mint and herbal natural scent. What’s more, it’s made in the U.S.
I’m not sure it’s available locally, but it is online at www.shopatmoxie.com and at the Frame Game in Newton, Pa. (215-860-2787)
If you’ve see peace soap around town, let us know where. Might make a great holiday gift.

Yo ho ho, it’s a pirate’s life for most … at least on Halloween
Blame it on Johnny Depp and all those pirate movies. Pirate chic is hot this Halloween. More than 1.7 million American adults will transform themselves into sea rogues, according to a survey commissioned by the National Retail Federation. That surpasses cowboys, zombies, devils and French maids combined.
The popularity of swashbucklers is attributed to the success of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies. Aye, matey!
Among children, however, pirates are the fifth most popular wannabe. Hannah Montana takes the top spot with 1.5 million expected dress-ups.
