Walgreens goes green for beauty advisor meeting

I’m heading to Tulsa this morning for Walgreens 6th Annual Senior Beauty Advisor Meeting. Vendors come in to show off new products and talk about what’s coming up. This year’s theme is “going green.”

I attended last year’s meeting and was really impressed with the vendors, managment and advisors. I plan to write a column in the paper in a few weeks. Watch for it.

More sales on the shopping blog

Mark your calendar. Clear your schedule.

Balliet’s is having an anniversary bash, complete with tax-free shopping and a trunk show featuring BeJe jewelry (one of my new faves) on Thursday. Then rest up for the weekend, when Old Navy offers friends who shop together 20 percent off.

Life is good. Check out these two sales on the shopping blog, blog.newsok.com/shopping.

A new T-shirt source

lillap.jpg

I’m always on the hunt for great T-shirts that aren’t super expensive. I was following a live chat on the Washington Post recently and a chatter suggested Lilla P. That’s a Lilla P T-shirt pictured here.

I haven’t heard of this line, but the chatter said the T-shirts are well-made and higher quality than James Pearse. Plus they’re less expensive. Well, that got my attention.

Check it out. The Web site is www.lillap.com.

I must admit, though, that the George T-shirts at Walmart are pretty good and you can’t beat the price. I bought a short-sleeve, V-neck turquoise in mid-summer for about $7, then noticed they were on sale for $5 a couple of weeks ago. I snatched up a white one for next year, but I’m hoping to find George long-sleeve styles for fall.

GQ style correspondent cracks the office dress code

calvinklein2.jpgGet with it, guys. Dressing sloppy just doesn’t impress anyone. And with the job maket so competitive, you better not show up at the office in athletic shoes.

Brett Fahlgren, style correspondent for GQ magazine and guest editor for Piperlime, offers footwear suggestions for guys who need to get their wardrobe together.

 Here are his ideas:

Business casual – You have options.  Just keep it simple with a few key styles. “When in doubt, stick with basic loafers”.  Pair them with dark jeans and a white shirt.    Shades of brown are best with khaki.  And try a timeless lace up like the Calvin Klein pictured here. They’re the must-have this season.

Professional attire – Wearing a suit?  Keep an eye on the details.  They’ll help you define your look.  The Chelsea boot is “great with a fitted suit.  And transition from work to a night out with ease.” “Avoid toes that are too pointy or square. Look for a rounded toe shape. It’s versatile and modern.

Teachers get discount at Aerosoles shoe stores

Here’s one for the teachers. Aerosoles footwear is making sure teachers start off on the right foot by offering a 15 percent discount to all teachers.

Members of the National Education Association can get the discount at all Aerosoles stores and on all styles.  The down side: The Aerosoles web site shows no Aerosoles stores in Oklahoma. But keep this in mind if you travel outside the state or send it to your teacher friends and family who live elsewhere.
