Love fashion? It’s not a waste of money
My friend Barbara Bradley, fashion editor for the Commercial Appeal newspaper in Memphis, Tenn., wrote a great column about how people are always critical of women who love fashion. Read it here.

Jeans (and more) that change a woman’s body?
Many women struggle trying to find jeans that flatter their body. This isn’t a new problem, but at least more manufacturers are addressing women’s concerns.
Shape fx offers jeans (and other clothes) that flatten the tummy and sculpt the rear, according to the company. Inside the jeans is a hidden power-pesh panty that slims the tummy, trims the hips and lifts and shapes the rear, eliminating the need for shapewear pieces. There’s also a shirred back seam for a natural-looking and toned effect.
The newest style is wide-leg, but there are also boot-cut, classic and curvy styles. The wide-leg jean retails for $59 to $64 and is available in average, petite, tall and women’s sizing.
Shape fx also offers dresses, suits, jersey knits, skirts, swimwear and pants, all with built-in control. The company says the clothes are “designed to make the body you have look like the body you want.”
Another plus — the prices are good. Most pants range from $49 to $54. The no-bra-bulge control dress costs $69 to $79.
The Web site is easy to move through, and categories allow you to shop by target zone, figure type or clothing category.
Give the Web site a look. I’m really impressed. I don’t order much online because I always like to touch the fabric, but I think I’ll take a risk on a pair of pants or jeans.
A couple of months I wrote about a Web site that offers custom jeans (at twice the price of these), and I had planned to order a pair of those this fall. I think I’ll hold off until I see if I like these.

FYI: Shape fx is part of the Spiegel family.
Campaigning for a fashionable election
Cindy McCain in pearls.
We can’t have a presidential election without a little — or a lot — of discussion about fashion. For the candidates and the candidates’ wives.
And don’t say people aren’t interested. They are. The dress Michelle Obama wore on “The View” sold out in hours. Women are sporting pearls again, in part because of Cindy McCain.
Read more about this from NPR and listen to the audio here.

Watch it. “She Got Game,” new fashion game show
Here’s something fun to watch. “She Got Game” is a new game show that gives contestants great fashion prizes.
The show, a new Web original series on WEtv.com, is hosted by James Aguiar (“Full Frontal Fashion,” “The Look for Less”), who surprises shoppers as they try on shoes, look at handbags and come out of the dressing room. He challenges them to a quiz, and if they can answer his questions correctly, they can win whatever item they were shopping for plus more.
I’ve seen the first Webisode. What a fresh idea. I’m eager to see more, but I hope the series takes a road trip. Wouldn’t it be fun if shoppers in Oklahoma got a chance to win clothes and accessories?
New three-minute Webisodes will be posted every Monday and Thursday through Oct. 6. Check out the She Got Game Insider feature, too. Click here to tune in.

A freebie: L’Oreal Bare Naturale mascara
When it comes to mascara, I have my favorites. And, in case you’re wondering, Maybelline Great Lash isn’t one of them, even though it’s reputed to be the best-selling mascara in the U.S. It’s just too wet for me.
I prefer L’Oreal Voluminous and Dior Diorshow. I tend to use the less-expensive Voluminous on weekends; workdays I reach for the more pricey Dior.
Now L’Oreal has introduced Bare Naturale Luminous Lengthening Mascara, a mineral-enriched mascara. Press info says the mascara is gentle, nourishing and paraben- and fiber-free. It contains 86 percent natural-origin ingredients and shine-enhancing minerals.
The company tosses out words such as ”flawless volume,” “weightless feel” and “absolutely clump-free.” Sounds like an easy sell, huh?
While I’m tempted to give it a try, I really love what I use. Not that there’s not something better out there. This might be it, but I’m feeling generous today. This tube of black mascara is going to a reader. And after you’ve used it a few days, post a comment here so we’ll all know whether it’s as good as L’Oreal says.
E-mail me at fashionmatters@oklahoman.com and tell me why you should be the lucky one to get this mascara. I’ll ship it out to the winner Friday morning.
