Now it’s official.  Archie will ask Veronica to marry him.  That’s coming from CNN no less!  The Archie comics and I go way back.  I took them to family summer camp.  I would go back and forth between Betty and Veronica, a lot like Archie did.  Though I never understood why the two girls would fight over him when, hello?  REGGIE!!!

Kate Dacey at Manga Critic offers up a quick couple of reviews and notes that things come out too fast to cover it all – preach it.

Chris Mautner decides that League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: 1910 is better than Black Dossier – which isn’t saying much.  Based on his review, I’ll probably give it a shot but not have my hopes up.

I normally don’t even bother with a comic until it’s collected but I love the concept of this giant cowl battle so much that I may have to get single issues.  Read About Comics reviews Battle of the Cowl: The Underground.

The above article includes an interview with Chris Meloni, or as I like to call him angry Elliot Stabler.  You may also recognize his name from Harold and Kumar go to White Castle - yes, that was him!!

He sounds all excited about the prospect of voicing a superhero, “You become a kid again. I’m doing what my five-year-old son does in his bedroom. Only I get paid for it. That makes it even more fun.”

I think Meloni is a great choice.  He’s got a strong voice but it isn’t too deep (think Batman) or too unsure (think Superman) or too high (think Spiderman).

Green Lantern is certainly getting a lot of attention.  I read the beautifully illustrated and mythos heavy Sinestro Corps War.  I was confused, it’s true, but enjoyed it none the less.

I loved He-Man but never She-Ra.

Voltron but never Thundercats.

Snorks but never, ever the whiny Smurfs.

Later I would wonder what drew me to those particular cartoons.  He-Man is obvious – why would I watch some lady run around when I could watch a shirtless man and his cat friend?  I mean, DUH.

Voltron had better animation and I liked the pink chick.  Thundercats had too much action and the weird combination of people merged with cat characteristics really freaked me out.

The Snorks were just more, I don’t know, edgy.   They constantly faced certain death when their little snorkel gill things got plugged up or tied in a knot.  The Smurfs just bickered and I guessed face some kind of danger by that wizard Gargamel – even though he sucked at magic.

Now, had I known the Smurfs were a comic?  I may have had more love for them.

The Savage Critic takes a look at a certain smurf storyline, King Smurf.  You gotta love any post that starts out  – “This is the story of the day the Smurfs became terrorists.”
