Reading Over Shoulders
David Welsh reviews Yokaiden and highlights some of the best releases this week – all of which I want!
Size Matters reviews So…Buttons which looks interesting but not necessarily top of the list worthy.
Ed Sizemore at Comics Worth Reading reviews one of my favorite books The Amulet Book 1.
I apologize for the short post (and lack of pictures!). I hope this keeps you reading through the weekend. I’m out of town this week so I will be back on Monday!
Ted Naifeh Interview
I was browsing around, checking out some of my favorite writers when I came across this Ted Naifeh interview at Sequential Tart. I, for one, LOVE Ted Naifeh. I was super disappointed when Unearthly was canceled. I mean, who doesn’t want to read about alien love? Seriously.
I’m also a big fan of his Courtney Crumrin series and he talks about who would play some of the characters in the movie, if there were one. For Uncle Aloysius he mentions Hugh Laurie (hmm, a little to quirky I think), Al Pacino (overrated) and Hugo Weaving (perfect!). He’s smart enough not to cast a Courtney, though he mentions Dakota Fanning. It sounds like he’s thought seriously about this. I’m not sure how I would feel about a movie. I’m usually disappointed in comics to movies though I know it’s not fair to compare. Yes, of course, I liked the Dark Knight, it’s the law to like it. And yes, Sin City was very cool to look at but those books felt like movies. Courtney feels more, I don’t know, personal. Plus, she looks so cool and vunerable, how can that translate to a human being with a nose?
He also discusses his new book, The Good Neighbors, with young adult fantasy author Holly Black. I highly recommend this to anyone and everyone, especially if you’re a fan of Holly Black’s. Not all prose authors can make the leap to graphic novels *cough* Jodi Picoult *cough* but Black pulls it off effortlessly. It’s a fairy story of course and paired with Naifeh’s sharp artwork, it should be a hit!
