Ok, maybe not dead but according to the Gaylord Herald Times , it may be the end for the yellow jacketed crime fighter. Apparently, Dick Locher, the writer/artist is retiring, which is his right to do so, but do they really need to end the whole strip? Couldn’t it live on with someone else at the helm?

Frank Miller – Dick Tracy develops alcoholism and begins a self damaging downward spiral. He will both admire and abore the criminal element. He’ll become increasingly violent and sexual, stepping out on Ms. Trueheart. The Kid can grow up a bit, haunted by memories of his murdered parents. He challenges Tracy but is really the only thing that keeps the dectective human.

Harvey Pekar – Tracy puts on weight and the strip switches focus from his success as a dectective to his miserable failures as a human being.

Colleen Duran – Dick moves the family to outer space. He shaves his body hair, begins wearing long robes and loses the strong chin. As he gets in touch with his femine side he also saves an entire alien race, then falls in love with their king.

Dave Sim – The strip goes literary and confusing. Dick becomes a multi-layered character while Tess Trueheart dons an apron and spends her whole time pregnant and barefoot in the kitchen. Just like it should be.

Brian K. Vaughan – nothing changes but suddenly everyone loves it.

Now it’s your turn – who would you like to see writing Dick Tracy?
