Stephen King The Talisman Preview
Bleeding Cool has a preview of the latest King adaptation, The Talisman.
It looks ok, a lot like the Dark Tower in terms of artwork. Pretty but it’s not blowing me away. The color is really nice though. I’m not really familiar with The Talisman but the preview is intriguing.
What do you think? What Stephen King book would you like to see adapted? I think The Stand or *shudder* It would be awesome.
Welcome to the Jungle – review
By far the channel I miss most, since downgrading our cable, is the SciFi Channel. I would say Lifetime but some wonderful genius includes that in the basic package. Anyway, one of the best shows on SciFi was The Dresden Files. It was funny, imaginative and featured good looking people – that’s really all I require. That led me too the novels. I tried one and enjoyed it but in a rare twist I actually preferred the television show. So when the graphic version, Welcome to the Jungle, came out I thought it would be a perfect medium for this story. I was right!
In this stand alone volume (the action takes place before the novel Storm Front) Harry Dresden, Wizard for Hire, is called out to the Chicago Zoo to investigate a supsicious murder. What he discovers is vicious animals under mind control, a very scared pretty zoo keeper and an anxious Chicago P.D. The artwork is pretty standard but it works and I have a feeling the artist, Adryn Siaf, will become more comfortable as time goes on.
All in all, the novel reads a lot like an episode. It’s funny, crazy stuff happens, then it wraps up nicely. This will definitely appeal to both fans of the show and the novels, even if they aren’t graphic novel readers. If you’ve never seen the Dresden Files, this is a great introduction to the world. Harry is young and just beginning to get a handle on his job. It was an enjoyable read, now I just wish the show would come back!!!

So I had a newsy type post all planned but then someone reminded me of this:
The Simpsonzu by *spacecoyote on deviantARTand I couldn’t resist. Here’s the Futurama one!
Futurama: Super Happy Fun Show by *spacecoyote on deviantARTThanks to these works, the artist Nina Matsumoto not only landed a job with the Simpson’s but her book Yokaiden is on the top of many ‘best of’ lists this year!!
Reading Over Shoulders
David Welsh reviews Yokaiden and highlights some of the best releases this week – all of which I want!
Size Matters reviews So…Buttons which looks interesting but not necessarily top of the list worthy.
Ed Sizemore at Comics Worth Reading reviews one of my favorite books The Amulet Book 1.
I apologize for the short post (and lack of pictures!). I hope this keeps you reading through the weekend. I’m out of town this week so I will be back on Monday!
