Tokyopop Cancellations

This economy thing is really bringing me down.  I’m an adult female who enjoys teen manga and apparently this doesn’t fall under the new stimulus plan.  Here’s a breakdown of some of Tokyopop’s cancellations.

My reactions:

Demon Flowers: Kuruizaki no Hana Volume 1DEMON FLOWERS???!!! NOOOOOOOO!!! This beautifully illustrated, creepy weird series has me completely hooked.   What can I say?  I love strange, orphan relationships.  I guess I can kind of see why they chose this title as it’s a little off the mainstream but still.

Get Backers Infinity Fortress – I’m kind of surprised because GetBackers is such a staple.  I haven’t read Infinity Fortress but typically if it’s got the brand name in the title, it sells.  See: Pokemon.  At least we have the original to read obsessively and hide from our feminist friends.

Aria - oh. my god.  Really?  Cue tragic squeels from girls all around the country.

V.B.Rose – this title was really well reviewed but I never got a copy.  I probably won’t even start now.

This Ugly but Beautiful World -  I never read the manga (really I didn’t know it was licenced here) but the anime is gorgeous and fun.

I don’t think manga is a passing trend but I can’t claim to understand what kind of hard decisions Tokyopop is making.
