Great Graphic Novels for Teens 2009

I have to start by giving much thanks to the very hip and young Bill Young for blogging while I was away.  He had some fascinating blogs and recommendations, I’m a little intimidated…

I was in Denver working on the Great Graphic Novels for Teens Committee.  Our goal was to make a list of, uh great graphic novels for teens.  Emphasis on the teens.  But even if you aren’t a teenager, you’ll find a lot to love!

Check out the whole list.

Or maybe just the Top 10.

What do you think?  I’ll have publisher, creator and fan reactions tomorrow.  Personally, I’m very pleased with this year’s list and was honored to be a part of this very fun committee.

You’re welcome, Sadie! It was great fun, and I feel a lot more comfortable about moving forward with my own blog idea.

For heaven’s sake, don’t feel intimidated. I’m just getting my feet wet again in this wonderful world of comics and graphic novels. I have certainly enjoyed your enthusiasm and recommendations. I just dived back into Ex Machina and Y: The Last Man based on your positive experiences with those titles. They are both quite habit-forming.

I was happy to see that I’ve actually read one of the top ten graphic novels for teens—Umbrella Academy: Apocalypse Suite. A great story.

Plus, I noticed that Skim was featured as one of the top graphic novels at a local bookstore. And, I’m a big Josh Wedon fan, so I’ll definitely have to check out Runaways.

Glad you had a great time in Denver. Welcome back!

Skim was definitely one of my favorites this year. It was the first one I really reacted too and knew I wanted on the Top 10. I love Runaways and think Joss Whedon did a good job taking over from Vaughn.

I’ll lend you Atomic Robo to cause you’ll get a kick out of that.

And now, since the committee is over, I can read Bomb Queen!!!
