Missouri continues lowest, but not for why I thought

Missouri continues to have the lowest average gas price in the nation on Thursday, with a statewide price of $2.016 a gallon.

On Wednesday, I said it’s price fell below Oklahoma’s because many say it has a lower gas tax than the Sooner State’s. But Chuck Mai, spokesman for AAA Oklahoma, tells me I’m wrong.

Missouri’s gasoline tax, Mai told me, is 17.6 cents a gallon. Oklahoma’s is 17 cents a gallon. Only two states have lower gas taxes than Oklahoma’s he adds: South Carolina and New Jersey. Thanks Chuck.

But New Jersey? Someone get a rope (just kidding).

….

On Thursday, AAA’s www.fuelgaugereport.com showed Oklahoma with an average price of $2.039 a gallon.

Missouri, came in lower with an average price of $2.016 a gallon.

The national average for gas, meanwhile, also continues falling. On Thursday, the nation’s average price was $2.340 a gallon.
