How much money do principals and teachers spend out of their very own pockets to provide things for the students that the school district does not have funds for? I think that if you took a survey you would be very surprised to know that it happens all the time. I am a retired teacher and I know, because I spent my own personal funds every year that I was in the system. What would it cost you to reimburse every teacher every cent they spent? You don't want to think about it. Many principals and teachers go way beyond the call of duty because they are dedicated and they care about the students. That is why I am truly sadden about the dismissal of Ms. Stewart, she is such a principal. It is truly shameful that teachers and principals who are really concerned about helping and educating children are being falsely accused and fired because of fabrications brought against them. I think Ms. Stewart should be rehired and given all the rights and privileges that principals possess. We always want to check someone else; maybe we need to check ourselves.

Why do we have the shortest school year in the country and still have bad test scores? Why in the world don't we add more days and hours to the yearly schedule? The lengthened period of the yearly schedule is a good thing, but take the oppotunity to add in the extra days or hours,so the students get the proper amount of instruction. The EOI and 'no child left behind' tests should be done only in the last week of school, not several weeks before. Perhaps test them the first week of school to know what they need to learn instead of after it's too late to correct their lack of knowledge. The students get almost no academic instruction the last month of classtime. Any child I know is taught how to pass the tests, not learn the course material.
