Why do we have the shortest school year in the country and still have bad test scores? Why in the world don’t we add more days and hours to the yearly schedule? The lengthened period of the yearly schedule is a good thing, but take the oppotunity to add in the extra days or hours,so the students get the proper amount of instruction. The EOI and ‘no child left behind’ tests should be done only in the last week of school, not several weeks before. Perhaps test them the first week of school to know what they need to learn instead of after it’s too late to correct their lack of knowledge. The students get almost no academic instruction the last month of classtime. Any child I know is taught how to pass the tests, not learn the course material.
