School dropouts: Your feedback
I covered a student summit yesterday at the Cox Convention Center where 200 high school freshmen from Oklahoma City talked about school dropouts.

To avoid school drop outs – students should be given a choice between finishing an academic program to go on to college – or a work program to receive training for a career (through area vo-techs). Many countries do this already and it is based on ability, scores, and willingness. Students unwilling , or unable, to do the work for a higher degree are given the opp to learn how to do something for which they can be paid. I would see the chief problem of the teen years is it is a wasteland without meaning or significance. We as a society keep them “kids” far too long…
