It worries me a lot.
Actually, I think the problem is deeper: how regular citizens can have guns? How is it possible to be legal?
Guns should be allowed only for police and aothorized personnel.

I taught in OKCPS, an elementary school on the NE side. I left because the administrator would not support the teacher when discipline was needed. The principla wanted to be a politician with the parents rather than accept reality that discipline was necessary. She even allowed the student to use his race as an excuse in a hearing. I would have stayed with OKCPS except for the attitude and behavior of the administrator.

Tecumseh High School ~MY CHILD WAS ASSULTED IN THE FACE YESTERDAY AND NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ! IT WAS ON THE WAY TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM I LEARNED ABOUT THE BULLIES AND THE GIRL GANG SITUATION. THE GIRL WHO DID THIS HAS 3 DAY SUSPENSION ! IT'S GARBAGE AND THATS WHAT YOU GET ~ I THINK THAT AT THE BEGINING OF SCHOOL THEY SHOULD AT LEAST MAKE YOU SIGN A WAIVER OF YOUR RIGHTS AND YOUR CHILDS RIGHTS AND RISK OF INJURY OR DEATH ~ THEN WE WOULD HAVE SOME WARNING ABOUT HOW THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE WELL BEING OF OUR KIDS !

I will start out positive. Oklahoma is a nationwide leader in early childhood education and that's where the intervention is most effective. If we, as an entire community including schools, parents, community members, decide to make a difference early in a child's life that child will be more confident in being him or her self and may not be as likely to try to "fit in". I just recently attended a Challenge Day (www.challengeday.org) and it is amazing how humanity is all the same. From an early age, kids are taught to fit in certain boxes. Some kids will just be outside every box and have no where to fit. Who will they turn to? They will continue to be ostracized by other kids and even family. I feel we are all responsible for school shootings. Who taught us to hate? To make fun of others? Who told us we can only hang around certain people? Inside, humanity is the same and everyone has problems, regardless of your ethnicity or socioeconomic class. We don't have to like everyone, but we could all be more accepting. I think if all of us, adults and kids, learn to be more accepting, we can stop events like this in the future. We can make sure people don't feel ostracized and lonely and feel like killing themselves and others is the only answer. Adults, let's step up and be the change we want to see in our schools.

I believe that the schools and teachers really dont have anything to do with any of this. It is not up to the schools to raise our children. If we as parents started at home with providing a good home enviroments for our children it may help some. I know we can not be with our children 24/7 but hey moms and dads spend some quality time with them, listen to them, sit down and eat dinner with them and enjoy them. Is it because we dont have time we work we do this and that. Take time and spend the time needed now before it is too late! Parents need to get better control of thier children. What about those good old fashion "Whoopins" we use to get back in the day? Are we afraid of disciplining our own kids? Come on parents step up to the plate and be there for your kids. I think that our children should be allowed to carry cell phones.....to call 911 in case of an emergency.

Ibelieve the district needs to look at better ways of discipline and positive role models in all the OKC Public Schools, but primarily the schools in SW OKC. These children don't seem to have any positive role models in school or outside of school. I've had two step children fail to complete school and currently having trouble with one of my own. The main problem I have encountered is peer pressure to fit in because it seems that many of the children in our area come from vary disfunctional homes, drugs, gangs, and violence are part of the daily living. For the children that don't live this way, it is very hard to be excepted or to fit in. Positive speakers coming to talk to students may help save some of these kids. Stricter classroom ethic or smaller classrooms may also help. Suspending students from school is only a reward, that is what my own have said to me. Punish them by making them attend Saturday School or military PT and see how many try a little harder to act appropriate. DISCIPLINE IS THE ANSWER.
