Behind the scenes: Food shoot at Buy For Less with Sean and Cathy Cummings

He’s Irish. She’s Italian. Both are excellent on camera and great to work with.

Sean and Cathy Cummings chef-it-up every other month with the OPUBCO video crew. We keep a small footprint, usually 2-3 people running a two-camera set-up. The videos are released twice a month on NewsOK.com. And they can be watched at Buy For Less’ web site and YouTube page. Also they can be viewed on the many screens inside the Buy For Less Locations.

We usually tape four episodes per session. Today we cranked out nine, including five :15 clips that will play on the Buy For Less screens promoting their new cheese section.

Click on the diagram to the right for a larger view of the set, located just outside the Buy For Less deli.

You can catch up with Sean at Sean Cummings Irish Pub, and Cathy at Vito’s. Both are on North May. But do it quickly, they are headed to Italy – her turf – for a vacation later this month.

Here are a few recent Gourmet Grille videos from Sean and Cathy.

And yes, that first segment involved donuts. Really low-fat, healthy donuts of course! With bacon. And sprinkles.

Bacon goes with everything.

This tasted amazing, seriously

Sean Cummings Pub moves, cause for a party

Call it a wake. Call it a party. Call it clever.

Sean Cummings led some faithful friends and customers down N May Avenue in Oklahoma City today. He led them on a short parade from its former location to its new home, right next to his wife Cathy’s restaurant, Vito’s Ristorante.

Why simply close and reopen/resurface down the street? Why not reward your friends and faithful with a party, an event, a good time, something for all to remember?

Looked like fun. Looked like a lot of pennies.

I shot this with a Sony HVR A1U and was very disappointed with the results. Had the auto focus on, which is sometimes a good idea with this camera, but not today. Also, the wind sock was missing when I picked up the camera over the weekend. You’ll notice the wind noise since this was mostly shot outdoors.

Working with the Canon 7D will spoil you.

Food, more food and weather

Shot the latest four segments in our Gourmet Grille at Buy For Less series to begin the day. Sean (Sean Cummings’ Irish Restaurant and Pub) and Cathy (Vito’s Ristorante) Cummings were in rare form this morning. They cheffed up two soups, some scallops and a pepper crusted steak.

Caught up with the Food Dude, The Oklahoman’s food editor, Dave Cathey for lunch. Cathey and I discussed some of our upcoming video series, the Lunch Birds, Try This! and a Chef’s Table concept. We were joined at Rococo Restaurant & Fine Wine by owner/chef Bruce Rinehart, Iguana Grill owner/chef Ryan Parrott and Kristy Klockhart. I recommend the Rococo’s Gangster Sausage Grinder. I’d also recommend a pair of Rinehart’s always flashy pants. Next time you’re there, see for yourself.

Back at OPUBCO Studios, I interviewed the National Weather Service’s Rick Smith via Skype this afternoon. Rick is the warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Norman Forecast office. It’s going to get cold. We will do more interviews throughout the winter and spring, including tomorrow morning for an update.

Chicago dogs, Italian dogs, Mexican dogs, French dogs…

May is beef month. Sean and Cathy Cummings taped four segments with us last week as part of our Buy For Less Gourmet Grille series.

Here’s the first segment, on hot dogs.

I know where you can get rack of lamb training

Coffee and laptop, could be in the office with this combo.

Ran into Sean Cummings at the Starbucks this morning. Sean owns Sean Cummings Irish Pub on North May in Oklahoma City. His wife Cathy runs Vito’s Italian Restaurante, also on North May.

NewsOK has been producing the Gourmet Grille at Buy For Less starring Sean and Cathy for about a year now. In fact we just taped four segments earlier this week at the Buy For Less on NW Expressway.

This morning, I put the car into the garage to get an oil change and wandered across the street to use what’s left on a Starbucks gift card that was a birthday present. Love the SBux gift cards. Ordered a mocha and sat outside with laptop to wait on the oil change. Guy said it’d be about 2 hours. Guess they’re busy at Firestone.

Anyway, after setting up the AT&T wifi on the patio, I see Sean and two of his daughters coming up the sidewalk. Out on a mission for Mother’s Day they were. Sean said he was teaching how to cook rack of lamb later today at the Buy For Less. Said Fred, who runs that Buy For Less, had asked him to fill in for another chef who couldn’t make it. So Sean would be dropping some knowledge on cheffing up some lamb. Fred usually oversees our tapings, seems to be a very nice guy. Didn’t know he was the one behind Sushi Neko, over on North Western. Small world.
