OPUBCO Studios is completely Mac-based. We edit on Mac machines. I use a MacBook Pro to edit, taking it home and in the field. An iPhone is constantly by my side. The iPad is a marvelous device, even bought my wife one after we both used mine so often.

So I’m a huge Apple fan, because their stuff works and its intuitive. Seems to make a lot of sense for the creative peeps.

Steve Jobs – RIP. The world lost an important human. I wonder how often you can say that?

From Chase Jarvis’ blog: “Here is a list of 10 things I’ve learned the hard way that every photographer, designer, creative–hell, every creative person–should know.” And Chase edited this list from Guy Kawasaki’s article “What I learned from Steve Jobs.”

A lot has been released, announced and proclaimed the past few weeks – Final Cut Pro X, Lytro and Red Epic posts.

A lot has been released, announced and proclaimed the past few weeks – Final Cut Pro X, Lytro and Red Epic posts. So as the tech changes, so does the game.

I watched “PressPausePlay” at deadCenter a few weeks ago (minus the RG of the RGB). To paraphrase something I heard in that film – technology comes first. Jimi Hendrix wouldn’t have become famous without the electric guitar. The tech comes before the person, the genius, the moment.

As tech evolves it’s all about what we do with it.

As Bart Conner says, “Why not me?”

As Boone Pickens says, “Who are you going to bet on? Bet on yourself.”

Both are good interviews, by the way.

A lot of people are ripping Apple and FCPX. But somewhere, someone is gonna do something really cool with it. As someone who edits primary for online, the new FCPX sounds perfect to me, mostly for its speed (no more audio sync, no more rendering, no more Compressor or Mpeg Streamclip). I’m not worried about labels of “iMovie Pro” just show me what it lets me do. I’ll figure it out from there.

It’s not just the technology (which will always evolve), it’s what you do with it.

So here’s the quote from this article that I think is important:

Editing is going to become one of the most important, sought after skill sets in the next five to 10 years. I think we’re going to see such an incredible amount of data coming in, to the likes of which we’ve never seen before that editors are going to become one of the most important job positions out there.

I’m a big iPhone fan. A big Apple fan for that matter. I’m very ready to update my iPhone – I don’t have the iPhone 4.

And AT&T drops calls right and left. And right. And left.

But I’m not sure I’ll switch from AT&T to Verizon. More details are forthcoming about the Verizon data rates. And that may determine some decisions. Seems like the pricing will be very similar to the existing AT&T rates.

My colleague Eric Boehs’ worst fears were realized Tuesday.

He got to work. But didn’t have his iPhone. Nor his newly purchased iPad.

Surely he hadn’t left them on top of his car when leaving for work.

Surely he hadn’t put them into a box while loading up trash for “big trash” day in Oklahoma City.

Good thing Eric had Mobile Me so he could track his missing iProperty as it moved around Oklahoma City.

Hooters. Motels. An afternoon chasing down the missing iHardware, with videographer Kyle Roberts capturing the drama.

Watch and enjoy. And be glad it’s not you.

UPDATE: Last night, Gizmodo picked up the story. We also uploaded the video to YouTube and it’s beginning to take on a life of its own.

The Gizmodo article, by Rosa Golijan, has had numerous responses and posts as people read and watch the story, and then chime in.

The YouTube version has had about 5,000 views.

The video received 3,907 views on NewsOK yesterday to rank as the site’s second-most viewed video. And it wasn’t posted until late Wednesday afternoon, and not promoted to the home page lineup until the evening. It was shared on Facebook and Twitter throughout the evening.

It’s received several hundred views as of early Thursday morning on NewsOK.

Apple has bought Quattro Wireless, a mobile advertising company, Quattro said on Tuesday. The price was about $300 million, according to a person briefed on the deal.

The purchase, announced in a post on a Quattro company blog, marks Apple’s first move into the advertising business. It will put the company into direct competition in the mobile ad market with Microsoft, Yahoo and Google, which in November agreed to acquire AdMob, another mobile advertising network, for $750 million. That acquisition has attracted antitrust scrutiny from the Federal Trade Commission. Apple had also been interested in buying AdMob, according to people with knowledge of that deal.
