Best Buy had about 300 people waiting for the 5 am open today at Memorial Road in NW OKC for some Black Friday shopping. Kyle Roberts shot video at Best Buy, Quail Springs Mall and Penn Square Mall this morning. I think he’s ready to go home now. He said one family arrived at the Best Buy on Wednesday evening and made a fun Thanksgiving out of the wait. The family that camps and shops together…

I drove by the Best Buy on Memorial in NW OKC around midnight Wednesday/early Thursday morning. I saw tents on the sidewalk.

On Thanksgiving afternoon, I drove by the same store and saw more tents. These bargain shoppers will have spent over 24 hours waiting for the doors to open at 5 a.m., Friday.

First, it’s the day after Christmas. It was Dec. 26, 2004, when waves from the mightiest earthquake in 40 years killed around 230,000 people in 12 Indian Ocean nations. The Asian tsunami was remembered today as survivors prayed at mosques and mass graves marking the third anniversary.

A broad gauge of consumer spending released by MasterCard, which includes estimates for spending by cash and checks, showed a modest 2.4 percent increase in holiday spending, excluding gasoline and auto sales. Women’s apparel suffered especially, with spending down 2.4 percent. Target, the nation’s No. 2 retailer, warns its sales may have fallen in December.
