Crime scene update: officer involved shooting

Went out to NE 10 where the media is staging, or being stage, to cover the OKC police officer involved shooting. Took Tanner Herriott his laptop. Believe it or don’t, wifi at that area. That’s awesome.

Grabbed his footage from his drive, dumped it onto to my laptop, did a quick standup with Augie Frost from The Oklahoman and came back to The Oklahoman. Edited together a quick package for a noon update from the scene.

Storm footage and recap

National Weather Service forecasters haven’t confirmed if storms that moved
Wednesday afternoon through the Oklahoma City area produced two tornadoes,
about 10 minutes apart.

The Oklahoman’s Brian Sargent reports it’s likely that tornadoes will be
confirmed.

At 5 p.m., a storm spotter reported a tornado near State Highway 66 west of
the John Kilpatrick Turnpike in Yukon. The tornado lasted about a minute,
the storm chaser said.

About 10 minutes later, an observer at Wiley Post Airport told the weather
service there was a tornado three miles east of the airport. Damage was
reported near NW 63 and Meridian Avenue.

Only one injury was reported.

Oklahoma Gas & Electric Co. reported about 160 customers with power outages
earlier this morning.

Today in OKC: Partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 70s. Tonight: Partly
cloudy. Lows in the upper 50s. Twenty percent chance of thunderstorms.

Jami Smith video from OKC Bombing ceremony

Jami Smith sang the National Anthem and Faith in You at today’s 13th Anniversary Ceremony in downtown Oklahoma City. I met Jami for the first time a few weeks ago. She came by the OPUBCO Studios for a couple of interviews. In fact, she popped into our smaller studio to record Faith in You on video. Very nice girl with a cool voice.

I shot this morning’s 13th Anniversary Ceremony in downtown Oklahoma City. Gov. Brad Henry, Burns Hargis and Bob Woodruff were among the speakers.

What should OKC’s NBA team be called?

Angi and I taped a segment over the past two weeks about what OKC’s potential NBA should be called. I say two weeks because we went out to Oklahoma Christian’s clock dedication a couple weeks ago where we ran into Gov. Brad Henry. His response was “the Henry’s.” Pretty good.

We also asked Oklahoma citizens their thoughts and The Oklahoman’s sports staff for theirs.

Honestly, I haven’t heard a proposed team name I really like. Not that it matters. But I’m a big NBA fan. Big Lakers fan, grew up that way. I’ve bought the NBA League Pass for years and stay up past midnight watching the Lakers as their West coast home games begin at 9:30 pm Oklahoma time. Anyway, I’d be disappointed for OKC to have a lame name.

Not that it matters.

Behind the scenes with Elephant Nation

This week, we launched the Elephant Nation page on NewsOK. The OKC Zoo has elephants, but they are leaving. Not on an unhappy trip though:

“The elephants leave in June to breed with a male at the Tulsa Zoo. Their return hinges on two timelines: conception and construction.”

The Oklahoman’s Carrie Coppernoll was the lead reporter on this assignment. At first, she scheduled a studio intervew with the interim zoo director. Then she took her camera to the zoo. Paige Dillard and Chase Estus went on a third video interview with Carrie back at the zoo.

As it turned out, we have six videos ranging from interviews with a man who trained the elephants when they were young to a history of elephants in OKC.

Just wait until we add the Elephant ringtone.
