Last night, Angi Bruss and I taped a couple of segments at the OKC International Auto Show at the State Fairgrounds. Tanner Herriott manned the one’s and two’s. David Jones lurked in the background with witty remarks. Yes, we had a full crew on hand.

I love sports cars. I was surprised that the Auto Show had both the 2010 Camaro and Mustang. It also had the 2010 Hyundai Genesis couple. And the 2010 Nissan 370 Z. I won’t even get into the exotics, like the Nissan GTR.

Even Peter Hodges, president of the Metro Auto Dealers Assocation, expressed some surprised that the manufacturers delivered all of these top name cars for the show. Wednesday was the annual “VIP” event, where advertisers, sponsors and others get a sneak peek at the chrome and snack on finger foods.

In my opinion, the Camaro did not disappoint. It was my favorite car of the show. I’ve been reading reviews on Edmunds.com and had high expectations. The new Mustang wasn’t quite as cool as I’d hoped, but the strange gold/yellow/mustard/beer color had a lot to do with the “meh” factor. So did the base model wheels.

And of course the new Corvettes were amazing.

Grayson Cook did an excellent job editing this video, especially the fast musical montage at the beginning.

Steve Lackmeyer writes one of the best, if not the best, blogs on NewsOK. You can find it at OKCCentral.com. Not surprisingly, it’s about Oklahoma City with a focus on downtown and Bricktown. It’s informative and exclusive, meaning you can’t find that stuff online elsewhere. At least, I haven’t anyway.

OKC Talk is also great, by the way.

Steve, a business reporter at The Oklahoman, is the authority when it comes to development. He has spent years talking to the movers and shakers of our city’s growth. He has written books about it, recently conducting a book signing for his latest.

Anyway, we are developing a video segment to accompany his blog. A few weeks ago, he told me he planned a story on the closings of some businesses on Memorial Road in NW OKC. I shot a quick video while driving up Memorial, from Circuit City to Starbucks. Not the best video you’ll ever see. Look for better soon.
Apparently so. OKC’s mayor did the chicken dance with the kids at Western Village Academy this morning.

Apparently so. OKC’s mayor did the chicken dance with the kids at Western Village Academy this morning. Western Village is one of four schools in Oklahoma participating in the Move for Life health initiative.

Mayor Cornett spoke candidly to the kids, asking them questions about health, the importance of brushing their teeth and overall fitness. The kids had warmed up through their Move for Life routine before the mayor arrived. Leaving only the infamous chicken dance to be performed.

Here’s more from INTEGRIS Health:

With the rate of obesity on the rise in Oklahoma, INTEGRIS Health feels the need to do what we can to combat this problem. Our objective is to reduce the risk of obesity by providing health and nutritional education in conjunction with a regimented physical education program.

The Move For Life Schools program works in conjunction with physical education departments, faculty and staff at some of the elementary schools in the metro area and two elementary schools in Seminole Oklahoma in conjunction with INTEGRIS Seminole Medical Center. Our goal is to educate the students about the benefits of good nutrition and physical activity which will prepare them to make choices that will improve their lives.

With the use of incentives, objectives are reached consistently and at a rapid pace. A walking program that rewards the top two students with bicycles at the end of the school year is one of the incentives that have been readily accepted by the students. Another example is “cool cash”. Students are awarded “cool cash” for participation in activities that promote a healthy mind and body. The “cool cash” is then redeemed for items the students can purchase from the “cool cash cart”.

The program is currently in place at Western Village Academy, and Ridgeview Elementary in Oklahoma City and at Woodrow Wilson Elementary and Northridge Elementary in Seminole Oklahoma.

Went to the Thunder game last night. Celtics came to town. I hate the Celtics. Grew up a Lakers fan, for no reason. I mean, I wish I grew up on the beach, going to games at the Forum. But no, just grew up here watching the Purple and Gold on TV in the days of Magic and Kareem.

So, still a Lakers fan. Still get NBA League Pass to watch their games. Still hate the Celts. The Finals last June were brutal.

So the Doc Rivers-led squad rolled to the Ford Center on Wednesday night and rolled over the Thunder. OKC put up a fight in the first, then laid down as the best team in the Eastern Conference methodically played their game and beat OKC beat 13.

Had great seats for this game. Attending an NBA game in OKC has always been an entertaining experience. Almost like attending a concert there. It’s as much for the atmosphere and seeing everyone as it is for the hoop.

Seattle’s mayor said Monday he’s hoping the Oklahoma City-based owners of the NBA team will sell the team if they’re forced to honor the last two years of a lease at a city arena. Mayor Greg Nickels was the key witness in the first day of a trial that could determine whether the SuperSonics must play here for two more seasons or can move to Oklahoma City this year.

In Picher last night, Angry words over whether insurance proceeds should be deducted from federally funded buyout offers were exchanged Monday evening during a Tar Creek buyout trust meeting.
