As you know, Britney Spears bombed in her much-hyped MTV Video Music Awards performance.

As you know, Britney Spears bombed in her much-hyped MTV Video Music Awards performance. Or so say the critics. The Oklahoman’s George Lang blogged on NewsOK during the 2 hour show. Here’s George’s take on Brit: “when you’re going to wear an outfit designed to fit a Bratz doll, you might want to start the Pilates regimen earlier.” The NY Times? “She was awful. Visibly nervous, she tottered around the stage, dancing tentatively and doing nothing that sounded or looked like real live singing.”

Well our friends at the LostRemote.com report that ratings for the show were up 23%. And traffic to MTV.com was strong as well – 7 million video streams. Pretty cool.

Apple has sold its one-millionth iPhone, just days after it cut the price of its smartphone by $200. That’s 1 million sold in just 74 days. Apple says it will sell 10 million by the end of next year. It took Apple two years to sell one million iPods.

And in related news, the recoding industry has come up with a new format. It’s called the “ringle.” It combines the mostly defunct single format with ringtones. Each ringle will contain three songs – one hit, maybe a remix and an older track – along with one ringtone, all on a CD. Sony is set to release 50 ringle titles beginning in October.

The airlines predicted 2007 would bring more flight delays.

The airlines predicted 2007 would bring more flight delays. And they’re following through! The Oklahoman’s Ja’Rena Lunsford reports on-time performance is at 72 percent, down 5 percent from last year. And just in case someone asks you today: the nation’s most delayed flight is a Delta flight from New York’s JFK to Orlando. It’s only late 96.77 percent of the time.

The online hangout Facebook will now let non-users search for members’ personal profiles. In the past you had to be a Facebook member to search for other members. Facebook will now also let Google, Yahoo and other search engines index portions of profiles. Users can opt to remain invisible in such searches. The goal is to let more people connect.

Ok, the summer is over. Or at least the summer TV season is over. Let’s look at what we watched on cable this past week. TNT’s The Closer ranked No. 1 with 7.8 million viewers. Holly Hunter’s Saving Grace, based on an OKC cop, ranked No. 4 with 4.5 million viewers. MTV’s docu-soap The Hills is dominating basic cable in the 18-to-49 year old category. 4.2 million viewers watched last week. And HBO’s Entourage had 2.2 million viewers for its season finale.

That’s today’s 3 Things. Hug it out.
