Darnell Mayberry joined me on the sports desk today to discuss tomorrow night’s matchup of the NBA Finals: Lakers vs. Celtics.

I grew up a huge Lakers fan and still am. No reason why, born and raised in OKC. But I still pull for the LA team.

Should be a great series. Game one of the best of seven series is Thursday night in Bean town.

And then there is this take from The Oklahoman’s Berry Tramel.

Sorry if I don’t join the euphoria over a Lakers-Celtics NBA Finals.

I’m a big, big Lakers fan. Lakers are playing the Spurs tonight, Game 1 of the NBA Western Conference playoffs.

The clock reads just before 9 pm, and that means it’s time for Ryan Seacrest and the gang to reveal who wins American Idol. Oklahomans halfway care because David Cook – who claims Missouri as home, or at least the show does – has played many gigs and served many drinks in the Tulsa area. And for my two cents, he has done a great job when I’ve caught his performances on AI this season. Not that I watch it much. But he’s got great talent.

So here’s the remote, cue the judges, Randy, Paula and Simon… and the right David wins. Cook beats David Archuleta by over 10 million votes.

Back to the hardwood.

Emma and Ethan were the most popular first names chosen by Oklahoma parents in 2007, according to the Social Security Administration. Now, before you read the story on NewsOK, you can take a simple little quiz of baby names on NewsOK.com. See if you can guess the most popular names in America.

In sports, the San Antonio Spurs beat the New orleans Hornets last night. The NBA playoffs are down to the Final Four – Pistons vs. Celtics, game 1 tonight. And Lakers Spurs, game 1 tomorrow night.

Tonight is part one of the two night American Idol finale. David Archuleta, a 17 year old from Utah vs. David Cook, a 25 year old from Missouri, who has spent time in Tulsa and so Oklahomans like to claim him. Tune in at 7 pm tonight on Fox.

Angi and I taped a segment over the past two weeks about what OKC’s potential NBA should be called. I say two weeks because we went out to Oklahoma Christian’s clock dedication a couple weeks ago where we ran into Gov. Brad Henry. His response was “the Henry’s.” Pretty good.

We also asked Oklahoma citizens their thoughts and The Oklahoman’s sports staff for theirs.

Honestly, I haven’t heard a proposed team name I really like. Not that it matters. But I’m a big NBA fan. Big Lakers fan, grew up that way. I’ve bought the NBA League Pass for years and stay up past midnight watching the Lakers as their West coast home games begin at 9:30 pm Oklahoma time. Anyway, I’d be disappointed for OKC to have a lame name.

Not that it matters.
