The Sooners held their version of Pro day on Tuesday in Norman. Kyle Roberts shot the morning event as Sooner players sprinted, jumped and tried their best to impress NFL scouts. Read more by clicking on sports on NewsOK.com.

Kyle did a nice job with this piece. Shooting for more cinematic than ESPN, the video does a great job with its closeups as the players cut back, with effects in the transitions and editing with the music. It’s stuff you notice but don’t notice until it’s not there.

Enough of the cold weather. Let’s talk pork… and welding… and bagpipes?

Many emails requested more live driving this morning. But we know OKC is a grown up city. It’s even a big league city as Mayor Mick might say. So we left the driving to the every day road warriors.

We did tape a town hall meeting at OPUBCO this morning. And the usual energy segment. And some Parties Extra with Helen Ford Wallace.

Our crews were also around OKC at various assignments:

Tim Money went to a 911 call center to see what it takes to become a 911 operator.

Kyle Roberts and Angi Bruss got an update on the damage the slick roads caused to our vehicles.

Tanner Herriott went to the grocery store. Uh, right… to check out how proposed legislation for a grocery tax might effect our receipts.

Of course, Damon Fontenot will file two videos from the Ford Center later tonight. Or possibly early in the morning, sometimes those deals run long. Press conference and the Jackie Cooper BMW Post Game Show with The Oklahoman (longest title for a current NewsOK segment) will be posted following the final buzzer. Thunder and Grizz, tips at 7.

Ready for some more football? Ready to relive Sam Bradford’s highlights?

Kyle Roberts has put together a great Sam Bradford highlight reel using the excellent footage from NewsOK.tv’s Damon Fontenot and Tim Money.

Kyle used Final Cut Pro to edit the videos. The footage was uploaded during the season to Final Cut Server. Kyle pulled it down and used effects he had previously created and used in other videos. Our music is licensed through DeWolfe.

Hundreds lineup early for Black Friday

Best Buy had about 300 people waiting for the 5 am open today at Memorial Road in NW OKC for some Black Friday shopping. Kyle Roberts shot video at Best Buy, Quail Springs Mall and Penn Square Mall this morning. I think he’s ready to go home now. He said one family arrived at the Best Buy on Wednesday evening and made a fun Thanksgiving out of the wait. The family that camps and shops together…

Dog (show) days of summer

Angi, Kyle and I rolled out to the Cox Convention Center this morning for the 2008 OKC Summer Classic Dog Show. More than 130 different breeds – in fact, more than 8,000 dogs – are competing this weekend in various categories.

We spoke with Wendy Musgrove and various owners, trainers and handlers about the show and the dogs. All were very helpful and passionate about their animals and the show.

Tickets are $7 for adults, $3 for children and the show goes on through Sunday.

Meet me at the bar…. at 9 a.m.

So I did.

Angi and I had a 9 a.m. shoot at McNellie’s Pub, which just opened a few days ago. It’s in the Midtown part of Oklahoma City, just north of downtown at NW 10 and Walker. It’s in the old Plaza Court building where Veazey’s drug store used to be back in the day.

The official name of the establishment is James E. McNellie’s Public House. The owner, Elliott Nelson, spent a few months in Ireland, decided he liked their pubs, so he opened one in Tulsa called McNellie’s Pub – a play on his last name. It went well, so now he’s trying one in our backyard.

We shot two videos, a typical “DnA” video where we talk with someone about their establishment. And Angi interviewed the head chef, Steven, in the kitchen as he whipped up some really good pasta.

Pretty good morning I’d say – surrounded by 350 beers and good food.

deadCENTER Film Fest opening night

Angi and Kyle spoke with local film makers and fans at the deadCENTER Film Festival’s opening night Wednesday.

I had wedding stuff to attend to. A man and his finance have to make sure the DJ is on the same page, you know.

Ok, back to downtown OKC. Eight locations are hosting over 100 films, independent film-style. Check it out.

Bike to work week fun video

Yes, really.

One of The Oklahoman’s business reporters, Don Mecoy, approached me with a video idea last week. He and his fellow reporters from the Biz desk were working on alternate methods of getting to work stories. With gas prices high, people have options: bike, bus, walk (ok, maybe not walk) and other stuff.

So Don Mecoy, who has a couple nice bikes, decided he would bike to work from Edmond. Read his account here. Jim Stafford would ride the bus.

David Jones and Kyle Roberts shot Mecoy as he rode to work, about 10 miles. Stafford took a hand held camera on the bus as he rode from Edmond to downtown – past The Oklahoman’s office – to catch the right ride to the office.

Kyle edited together a classic piece. Mecoy and Stafford were great sports and good to work with. It’s not your routine gas price package.

High School Huddle: All-State Football teams

Ryan Aber from The Oklahoman and I have been doing the High School Huddle show during the football season in 2007. Now we have reached the end of the season. So we coordinated a final High School Huddle for 2007 with The Oklahoman’s All-State Football teams.

The sports staff called in all of the players and the coach of the year for photos, interviews and quick video interviews.

Below is the intro, and here is the page we built for the player interviews. Kyle Roberts did an excellent job with the graphics and editing of the videos.
