Morning update: Mildren dies
Jack Mildren, who quarterbacked the Oklahoma Sooners to great glory and then became the state’s lieutenant governor, died Thursday night after a bout with cancer. He was 58.
Thousands are expected to visit Tinker Air Force Base on Saturday as America’s air power from World War II to Iraq is put on display during the free Star Spangled Salute.
Filling up the gasoline tank of the SUV, boat and RV for the Memorial Day weekend might make you cringe, with gasoline prices up more than a dollar a gallon from just two years ago.
The Big 12 Conference office announced Thursday that the Red River Rivalry – OU-Texas – will kick off at 11 a.m. at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Oct. 11 and will be televised by ABC.
Meanwhile the OU baseball team won last night in the Big 12 Tournament. Jamie Johnson delivered a walk-off, two-run double in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Sooners to a 4-3 win over Missouri. OU plays Texas at 9 am Saturday. With a win, OU qualifies for Sunday afternoon’s title game. OSU plays Baylor at 7:30 pm today.

OU football going HD
Myanmar’s isolationist regime allowed the first plane of a major
international airlift to land Thursday with aid for cyclone survivors, a
U.N. official said, amid fears that lack of safe food and drinking water
could push the death toll above 100,000.
Jim Stafford reports The Oklahoma Grain and Feed Association drew on the
collective wisdom of grain elevator operators from across the state
Wednesday and estimated Oklahoma wheat farmers will harvest 149 million
bushels this year. Last year’s wheat crop of 98 million bushels was stunted
by both a late freeze in April and unrelenting rain during harvest.
Jake Trotter reports High definition video entertainment is coming to
Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Construction began last week on
dismantlement of the old scoreboard at the south end zone of Owen Field. In
its place before the start of the 2008 season will be a state-of-the-art,
$4.5 million high-definition video screen totaling 3,689 square feet.
Expect highs in the 70s today in OKC, there is a 20 percent chance of storms
tonight.

Afternoon update: Sooners vs Washington on ESPN
Authorities are looking for this man, last seen walking to the residence of an Okmulgee woman found dead in her home last week.
Gov. Brad Henry has signed a bill to combat childhood obesity by doubling the amount of class time devoted to physical activity and nutrition programs for the state’s youngest students.

Oklahoma’s first road trip of the season at Washington will be on national television. The game will be televised by ESPN with kickoff beginning at 6:45 p.m.
Expect lows in the 60s tonight, with a chance of thunderstorms. highs around 80 tomorrow in the OKC area.

The Sooners’ first-team offense scored its only touchdown on a 51-yard pass from Bradford to tight end Jermaine Gresham on a play called by fan Shae Farmer, who got the chance to call a series of plays by with the winning bid of $2,900 in an auction benefiting the athletic department.
