And is always a cool if not interesting interview. For example, here’s this quote from Thursday’s Oklahoman about what Oklahomans are thankful for this holday season:

From lead singer Wayne Coyne: “Let it be said that I believe we live in an endlessly fascinating world and that simply being alive and healthy are already great mysterious gifts. But I recently injured some nerves in my neck. There are rumors that I was in a fi ght with Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails while we were in Mexico City. But sadly, I think I just slept on it in a bad position. Anyway, there were and occasionally still are strange pains that shoot through my arms and shoulders. … My point is – that drugs get a bad rap in these times of health consciousness, but the painkiller is a glorious life-changing invention, and it belongs at the top of any list of things that make life wonderful.”

On Wednesday, the Flaming Lips’ front man and manager Scott Booker spent 90 minutes in our studios. Coyne has been great to deal with since we started our little video operation under 2 years ago.

We’ve done video with Coyne with a lengthy one-on-one interview with Gene Triplett in our reception hall.

We’ve taped the Flaming Lips Alley dedication. And caught up with him at the upcoming Bricktown location School of Rock.

On Tuesday afternoon Coyne recorded a few Wimgo spots for us. We have something we call the Wimgo Project where various people talk about what they love about Oklahoma. Stuff like favorite restaurant or place to go. And Coyne banged through a commercial script for Wimgo that you will see on broadcast stations soon.

Next, Triplett sat down for round two of his sit down interview with Coyne. This interview advances next week’s New Year’s Eve Freakout hosted and headlined by The Flaming Lips. Triplett and Coyne make for an interesting dynamic: Coyne is so conversational and easy going, Triplett is a little more button down and serious. Both are passionate about music and know the subject of rock and roll through and through.

Angi Bruss and Coyne finished the 90 minute session with a preview of 2009, his outlook and hopes. We’ll post that Tuesday or Wednesday next week…

‘Christmas on Mars’ set to debut. Really?

Check out Oklahoma Rock Newsblog, they have the following post today, including trailer, outtakes and interesting comments:

Christmas on Mars, the Chinese Democracy of Martian Christmas movies, is expected to premiere this month. We’re serious.

There are only two showings scheduled (May 25 at Sasquatch! & June 14 at Bonnaroo), but more showings are in the works.

One comment says the Flaming Lips’ long awaited movie will be played Friday, June 13 at Oklahoma’s own deadCENTER Film Fest. Check the complete schedule for more event info.

DnA with Wayne Coyne

One of the coolest people we’ve met since we began our DnA segments is Wayne Coyne. You know him as the lead singer of OKC’s Flaming Lips band.

Angi and I covered OKC’s alley dedication for the Flaming Lips. We sat down with Wayne a few weeks earlier for a quick interview and then spoke with OKC residents.
