Mogulus gives nod to NewsOK

We used Mogulus to host our live streaming election coverage Tuesday night. Today, they posted a note on their blog of 35+ “big media” companies to use their service. Mogulus works well for us most of the time. We had a hiccup during our 8 pm segment. But they have been pretty reliable and allow for great functionality.

Decent voter turnout in NW OKC

About 300 people had voted at a church near John Marshall HS this morning in NW OKC. Time was around

I was in a long line that resulted in about a 40 minute wait to vote. Those with last names A-Layne had a longer wait than those of us with Layne-Z.

And they passed out Halloween candy to everyone.

Andrew Rice interviews in studio

Democrat candidate for US Senate Andrew Rice came to the OPUBCO Studios this morning. The Oklahoman’s Michael McNutt, sporting the bearded look, sat down for a quick, three question interview. We’ll have Sen. Jim Inhofe in this afternoon to ask the same three questions.

Earlier this week, Jim Roth and Dana Murphy sat down with The Oklahoman’s Jack Money, sans beard but with colorful tie, to answer those same three questions. They are running for the Corporation Commission.

All videos will be posted on NewsOK later this week to complement the growing election coverage leading up to Tuesday’s election night.

Oklahoma Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jeffery Gofton is resigning. State Health Department commissioner Dr. Mike Crutcher confirms Gofton has sent his resignation by e-mail to members of the board that oversees the medical examiner’s office.

Filing period for Oklahoma is Monday through Wednesday this week. Yesterday, 185 candidates filed — 99 fewer than filed the first day of filing for the 2004 presidential election year.

General Motors is closing four truck and SUV plants in the U.S., Canada and Mexico as surging fuel prices hasten a dramatic shift to smaller vehicles. None in Oklahoma. The iconic Hummer brand may be discontinued.

Shuttle Discovery’s astronauts prepared for the first spacewalk of their mission Tuesday and the installation of Japan’s giant lab to the international space station.

A massive blaze that destroyed part of the back lot at Universal Studios was accidentally ignited by workers using a blowtorch on the roof of a movie set building facade.

Arizona State beat Texas A&M 3-0 last night in Game 1 of the Women’s College World Series. The best of 3 final continues tonight at Hall of Fame Stadium.

China death toll rising; Picher residents face new challenge.

It’s Tuesday, here are some headlines for you…

Today’s Oklahoma County bond issue election is mostly about Tinker Air Force Base. County leaders want to buy the abandoned General Motors plant on the south border of the base and lease it to Tinker. The county has negotiated a $55 million purchase of the plant from GM should voters approve the proposition.

Other bond propositions would pay for fixes to flood control, the county courthouse and county records retention, as well as a new county extension building.

Ok turning to international headlines, in China, the toll of the dead and missing soared as rescue workers dug through flattened schools and homes today in a desperate attempt to find survivors of China’s worst earthquake in three decades.

In Oklahoma… As Picher residents searched Monday for their lost belongings in the rubble left by Saturday’s tornado, they faced a unique barrier to recovery: They can’t go back. With a federal buyout in progress, many storm victims don’t know what the future holds, but they know it won’t be in Picher. They say rebuilding would be foolish.

More severe weather is predicted to return today to Oklahoma.

A slight risk for severe thunderstorms will be east of a line from Medford and Enid to Lawton. Today: Mostly cloudy. Highs about 80 and windy. Thirty percent chance of thunderstorms, with some turning severe, in the late afternoon. 40 percent chance tonight.

The price of a first-class stamp rose to 42 cents Monday. But folks bought Forever stamps at 41 cents can still use them without extra postage. New Forever stamps went up to 42 cents.

Oklahoma County elex day tomorrow

Tomorrow, Oklahoma County voters have a handful of items on which to vote. I produced this segment this morning with Owen Canfield, who does a really nice job on camera, and Oklahoma County commissioner Ray Vaughn.
