Played a duo gig with J. Falcon Powell last night in Bricktown. The scene of the crime: Nonna’s Purple Bar. Good crowd for a three hour set. Two different ladies were celebrating their 30th birthday’s, which always makes for a festive time. Good staff there, very friendly and helpful. And this is key when playing places – sometimes the bar staff is not so friendly or helpful. Some places are easy to load-in, Nonna’s is not so much. First, you valet park out front, then load-in is back through the kitchen up the service elevator then snake around the hallway to a corner of the bar. Again, everyone from the valet to the chefs to the hostesses were top notch peeps.

My band Falcon Five-O played to a good crowd over at Tapwerks. The new owners of about a year have installed a stage as they continue to revamp the old building.

Oklahoma City officials are boasting about having the world’s largest Wi-Fi “mesh” network. That means that every city public safety vehicle is tied together on a wireless Internet protocol network that blankets a 555-square-mile area with Wi-Fi coverage. each city fire or police vehicle is in itself a moving wireless router that can broadcast on the network and serve as a Wi-Fi access point if another part of the network is disabled. You can learn more about this, by reading Jim Stafford’s report in today’s Oklahoman or online at NewsOK.com.

Meanwhile, Steve Lackmeyer reports Oklahoma City officials are negotiating with a national real estate advisory firm to develop a master plan for Bricktown. Check out more from Lackmeyer – and no one covers Bricktown like Steve Lackmeyer – at his blog on NewsOK – at okccentral.com.

Arizona State won the Women’s College World Series, routing Texas A&M last night at Hall of Fame Stadium 11-0 to win the best of three series.

Hot, windy and dry weather is expected today. A storm system will approach by late week and bring the potential for severe thunderstorms on Thursday and Friday. Today in OKC Mostly sunny. Highs in the mid-90s. Southerly winds 20 to 30 mph.

Angi and I hit the Oklahoma State Fair on Monday over lunch. We had two goals: 1) shoot something with Horseshow Road, the act at the OPUBCO Pavillion during the Fair, and 2) track down one of our honorees for the Oklahoman Spirit Award. More on Cheri White Owl in a future post.

Kyle Roberts and Paige Lessly accompanied us to the fair. Ryan Free, Events Manager for OPUBCO, set us up with accesses and the interview.

I’ve seen HR play at various events – from the Taste of Bricktown to the OKC Arts Spectacular. Over the 11 days of the fair, they are playing 32 sets, 3 a day. That’s exhausting. But they are talented and here’s more of them:

Today’s 3 Things You Should Know is all about how you can spend that extra pocket change.

For example, French Hickman and Jim Brewer are looking to sell – if the price is right. Both are major property owners in Bricktown. Read Steve Lackmeyer’s story in today’s business section of The Oklahoman to learn which properties you may want to purchase. Steve reports shoppers may want to consider property in “the Steelyard”, just east of Bricktown. You’ll also have to consider parting with $13 million.

Meanwhile, A is for Apology. Apple CEO Steve Jobs has apologized and offered $100 credits to people who paid up to $599 for an iPhone this summer. And then were burned when the company chopped $200 from the price.

Tomorrow, the Sooners host Miami. The Oklahoman today looked at ticket scalping and the word on the street regarding prices. How much? eBay prices range up to $600. By comparison, tickets for Notre Dame at Penn State this weekend are around $400. Last season’s Michigan at Ohio State game had average prices over $1,200. OU-Texas tickets usually go for more than $400.

One NewsOK user left the following pearl of wisdom: “If it’s raining, I’m sure you can get them much cheaper.” Thanks Jeff from Edmond, keeping it real.

Enjoy your weekend everyone. Stay dry.
