Mixology: Jason Ewald at Republic Gastropub

Jason Ewald mixes a Platinum Margarita and a Cider Sangria.

Had a sip of the Cider. Refreshing, very refreshing. But it was 9:30 am when we shot this. Although it had that perfect combo for brunch, it was a Thursday and a man needs to work. The office awaited.

Festival of the Arts: Where do I park?

Steve Lackmeyer brought me the info, guided me through our archives for the appropriate photos and helped produce the above video. Should be helpful this week during the Festival of the Arts. There is a ton of construction downtown, it’s really not easy to navigate.

Open Flame: Essays on a grilled chicken

One of our new productions is called Open Flame. Dave Cathey calls it “open mic night” for local chefs. To kick off the event, and there are six total planned at American Propane,

Cathey invited Ryan Parrott from Iguana Grill and Luke Fry from Good Egg Dining Group to step up to the mic/grill. I think Mark Ridener from Good Egg’s Cheever’s Cafe originally was to man the AGE grill but had a scheduling conflict. Enter Chef Fry, who leads the Republic Gastropub kitchen efforts.

David Jones and I shot the event last Thursday. No shortage of smoke in the awesome cabana at American Propane. Whether we violated any burn ban ordinances, I don’t know, but the crowd of around 50 people enjoyed the fine grilling put on by these three.

J.D. Merryweather from COOP Ale Works provided Native Amber and Horny Toad beer. I mean, a man needs something cold and refreshing to wash down wings, right?

Some things are just understood.

Great event. Took a week for my gear to air out. Clothes needed a couple rounds in the washing machine.

As per our usual, Jones and I shot with two Canon 7D cameras, matching the audio with a Zoom H4N. Jones went hand held with his shooting, using the camera strap as a third point of contact. I stayed with the tripod.

And below is an outtake that didn’t make the final product. Dave Cathey and Luke Fry are suspiciously behind Ryan Parrott, trying to light the grill. Judging by the ensuing fireball, they figured it out.

Mixology: Ludivine

We shot the Winter Cocktail tour a few months ago in that dark period of time I like to call the worst months of any Oklahoma year. I really don’t like winter.

But now it’s spring and the Spring Cocktail tour made its stop at Ludivine where mixmaster Kyle Fleischfresser whipped up his versions of the Tom Collins and Spicy Monk beverages.

Now, if you’ve ever been to Ludivine or seen Kyle at work behind any bar mixing drinks, you know that his specialty is in shaking. In fact in the above video he says you should never under mix a drink.

So I took a clip, slowed it down, slow-jammed the mix, and the result is below:

Devon Energy Center from the inside

Tim Money shot the above footage. He accompanied Steve Lackmeyer on an exclusive tour inside, around, up, down and out of the Devon Energy Center earlier this month. Money shot extensive footage. I’ll put together more of it soon.

BodyTrends ElectroSpa PUMP fashion show featuring Johnathan Kayne

The above video is from the cool event held at BodyTrends Electrospa. Johnathan Kayne’s fashions for prom were modeled with proceeds benefitting Oklahoma’s Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
