Cook wins American Idol, gotta love the remote

I’m a big, big Lakers fan. Lakers are playing the Spurs tonight, Game 1 of the NBA Western Conference playoffs.

The clock reads just before 9 pm, and that means it’s time for Ryan Seacrest and the gang to reveal who wins American Idol. Oklahomans halfway care because David Cook – who claims Missouri as home, or at least the show does – has played many gigs and served many drinks in the Tulsa area. And for my two cents, he has done a great job when I’ve caught his performances on AI this season. Not that I watch it much. But he’s got great talent.

So here’s the remote, cue the judges, Randy, Paula and Simon… and the right David wins. Cook beats David Archuleta by over 10 million votes.

Back to the hardwood.

3 Things – OU QB to move home

Keith Nichol is going home. The former Oklahoma quarterback announced Tuesday that he is transferring to Michigan State, an hour’s drive away from where he attended high school.

Tonight, David Cook will find out if he’s the next American Idol. Cook, who spent time working and playing in Tulsa, is in the final two vs. David Archuleta. Simon Cowell said in last night’s part one of the two part finale that Archuleta was the knockout winner.

Kristi Yamaguchi was named the new “Dancing” champ on the show’s season finale, becoming the first woman to win the ABC dance-off since its inaugural season. The figure skater came into the final contest Tuesday with a perfect score and bested fan favorites Jason Taylor and Cristian de la Fuente to claim the mirrorball trophy.

Boone Pickens said Tuesday that his hedge fund has nearly doubled his $165 million gift to Oklahoma State University’s athletic department. And, Pickens will make a historic gift to academics at Oklahoma State University today. The dollar amount was not released, but OSU officials said it will be the largest academic gift in Oklahoma history.

Kelli O’Hara, big time from Tulsa

I went to college with Kelli O’Hara at OCU. A very nice girl with big time talent. So it’s good to see she continues to do amazing things on Broadway. She’s been a Tony nominee before. And is again, this time with her role in South Pacific.

This weekend, a glowing story was written in the NY Times.

Good for Kelli.

AS Nellie Forbush, the sweetheart from Little Rock in the smashing new revival of “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific,” Kelli O’Hara deserves a medal for single-handedly rescuing the ingénue from extinction.
“Kelli is a phenomenon,” said Mary Rodgers Guettel, Richard Rodgers’s daughter. She’s also the mother of Adam Guettel, who composed the songs for “The Light in the Piazza,” which provided Ms. O’Hara with a breakthrough role in 2005. “You don’t usually find people that pretty who can sing that pretty. And she’s grown tremendously as an actress. Kelli was a pretty soubrette a few years ago. Now she’s, well, she’s somebody who can do anything.”
