Burned race car driver is 12-year-old girl

I covered State Fair Speedway for The Oklahoman for two years. Made a lot of friends. Met a lot of race fans and race drivers. Watching racing is one thing, going behind the pit wall is another experience. Good people who are passionate about their craft.

I saw a few really bad wrecks at State Fair Speedway, but nothing like this story.
“A young race car driver severely burned Saturday night in a crash on an Oklahoma City-area track remains in critical condition this morning in a Texas burn center.

The victim, identified as Harli White, 12, of Lindsay, was taken to OU Medical Center after the accident at I-44 Speedway on the southwest side of the city, officials said.

She suffered burns to her back, arms, legs and neck, according to fire officials who were called to the scene.

White was transferred to a burn center in Galveston.”

That’s a terrible situation. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.
