New Year’s Eve (early in the day)

Ok, so New Year’s Eve will be celebrated by me in Dallas for the fifth straight year. Time to pack the bags again, peel off the NYC airline tags and hop in the car for the I-35 drive.

Dallas has an outdoor ice skating rink, much like OKC does. OKC does a fine job with its Downtown in December (which The Oklahoman is a proud sponsor). Angi and I did a segment on the ice skating and snowtubing earlier this month.

So Melinda and I, along with some of my close friends, braved the 60 degree temps to skate outside the W Hotel in downtown Dallas. It’s in a cool location, near American Airlines Arena. The streets were lined by Arkansas fans, waiting for the Cotton Bowl parade to march by.

After a brief round of $12/per person skating, we tasted the guacamole at Luna De Noche. This restaurant in Victory Park did it up right, with avocados chopped up at your table.

We decided we would need some guacamole for our party in Uptown Dallas for New Year’s Eve. So we stopped at Central Market, by H.E.B., which was madness.

This place was packed, apparently lots of Dallas-ites shopping for their party goods. It’s a grocery store and more. Almost like a NYC deli or a cafeteria. Needless to say it had stuff olives too.

Let’s say you needed crab cakes – like nine different varieties – they had it. Or meatloaf. Or pasta. Or gelato.

Anyway, back to the townhouse to chef up some snacks and bring in the New Year.

To everyone who has watched videos on NewsOK.tv: thank you for watching. Happy New Year and have a safe time tonight, tomorrow and the rest of the week.
