IT IS LIKE THIS, THE ONES THAT W0RK FOR THE GOVERMENT STEAL MONEY AND THEY GET VERY LITTLE PUNISMENT. BUT ANY ONE ELSE GET THE BOOK THROWN AT THEM. WHY IS THAT. LOOK AT ALL THE SENETORS AND CONGRESS MEN AND WOMEN THAT STEAL EVERY DAY AND GET AWAY WITH IT . SEEMS LIKE IF YOU WANT TO BE CROOKED JUST WORK FOR THE CITY OR GOVERMENT.

David misses the point about open records and taxpayers’ right to know. It’s as simple as that. His comment about media is misdirected–investigative journalism protects democracy by keeping tabs on wayward bureaucrats and their kingdoms.

Mark: I understand that a dob is helpful in performing a background check. But any employee’s personal information should not be available to any citizen who calls and asks or it.

If you’re being paid by taxpayer funds, taxpayers should be able to, at the very least, find out your name. If you don’t like it, that’s why the private sector exists. It’s a question of cronyism, if the government can’t hide the names of its employees, it’s a lot harder to hide when jobs are given to donors or friends that aren’t qualified for them.

David: I don’t know if I believe DoB’s should be available for any employee, but I highly doubt any of the Ed Martin’s would tell a stranger their dates of births if asked. I know I wouldn’t. And if you don’t have that, you can’t do a background check.

This is all very interesting but what is the point? Is it because journalists want everything handed to them and never have to leave their office building? There are seven people in OKC named Ed Martin. If you spent as much time getting off your butt and out of your office asking questions as you did researching why the city won’t give you dates of birth, you would already have the answer to your question. I don’t think the city should be any different than any other employer. They should not give out any personal information on employees period.
