Del City police officer shoots man in Oklahoma City after chase, scuffle over gun

Del City police shot and killed a man after a car chase, crash and scuffle over a gun in Oklahoma City Wednesday, police Capt. Jody Suit said.

The chase started around 2 p.m. in a Del City neighborhood when an officer on patrol attempted to pull over a vehicle with three passengers. The driver nearly hit the officer’s car head on, Suit said, and the vehicle gave chase.
After a 10 to 12 minute pursuit, the vehicle hit a tractor trailer and crashed near Interstate 35 and SE 15 Street in Oklahoma City, Suit said. The officer and the driver ended up in a fight over a gun the driver had when the driver tried to leave the scene of the accident, Suit said.

“There was a scuffle with the officer and the suspect. In the course the officer fired several rounds, he was able to jump up and run 70 or 80 yards before he fell down.”

The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Suit said. Information on the two passengers was not immediately available.
