Jaymie Adams was pregnant at time of death, police add unborn child to homicide case

Blanchard mom Jaymie Adams was pregnant at the time of her murder, and Oklahoma City police consider her unborn child the second homicide of 2012.

From an Oklahoma City Police Department news release sent Wednesday morning:

It has been determined by the State Medical Examiner’s office that Jaymie Adams was pregnant at the time of her death.  Her unborn child will be carried as the 2nd homicide of 2012.  The investigation is ongoing.  No suspects named and no arrests made.

NewsOK staff is updating this story. Jaymie Adams was reported missing by her husband Dec. 10. Oklahoma City Police found her body Saturday and impounded the cars of her husband and mother-in-law on Sunday.

Oklahomans comment on New Hampshire primary results

The political sphere was all abuzz after former Massachusetts governor, Mitt Romney, closed out another victory Tuesday night in the New Hampshire primary. He also became the first Republican–who was not already president–to win both Iowa and New Hampshire.

Romney picked up nearly 46,000 votes, according to the New York Times. He recently defeated former Sen. Rick Santorum in the Iowa caucuses by eight votes a week ago. The margin was much bigger Tuesday night with Santorum receiving less than half that amount. (more…)


Oklahoma soldiers return home from Afghanistan

More than 40 Oklahoma National Guard soldiers will return from Afghanistan Thursday, military officials announced Tuesday.

The soldiers are with the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and will be the second group of soldiers to return to Oklahoma because of a “surge reduction” that was mandated by the Department of Defense. About 33 Oklahoma Guardsmen were the first to return to U.S. soil as part of the reduction on Dec. 15. The majority of the Brigade is expected to return in March.

Court says Oklahoma ban on Islamic law is unconstitutional

The Associated Press reports that an amendment that would ban Oklahoma courts from considering international or Islamic law discriminates against religions and a Muslim community leader has the right to challenge its constitutionality, a federal appeals court said Tuesday.

McAlester man charged with second-degree rape

A McAlester man has been charged with second-degree rape for having sexual relations with a 12-year-old girl.

The McAlester News-Capital reports:

Glynn Monroe, 18, was charged in Pittsburg County District Court on Dec. 30. The girl’s grandparents contacted authorities to report that their granddaughter had been sneaking out to meet Monroe.


911 call of Blanchard home invasion released

The Grady County sheriff’s office has released the 911 call of an 18-year-old woman who shot and killed an intruder Saturday.

Sarah McKinley, 18, tells a dispatcher in the call that she’s at home with her son and heard a man knocking at the door. She said she has two guns in her hand and asks the dispatcher if she is allowed to shoot the intruders if they enter her house. (more…)


Fund set up for Blanchard woman who shot, killed intruder

Since Sunday, I’ve received emails from people across the county who are interested in donating money to an 18-year-old woman in Blanchard who shot and killed a home intruder Saturday.

Sarah McKinley was at home alone with her 3-month-old son when the home invasion occurred. NewsOK reports:

Dustin Louis Stewart, 29, of Blanchard, was about to enter the home of Sarah McKinley, along with Justin Shane Martin, 24, of Blanchard, when McKinley shot Martin Saturday.

Reward offered in Tulsa arson fire

A $3,500 reward is being offered for information about an arsonist who set a house fire Saturday that led to the injury of a Tulsa firefighter.

Tulsa World reporter Amanda Bland reports:

James P. O’Neal is being treated for complications of smoke inhalation. Other firefighters pulled him from a burning home in north Tulsa on Saturday.
