Okmulgee County Courthouse evacuated after bomb threat

Officials  are following up on leads after a bomb threat at the Okmulgee County Courthouse Wednesday.

Okmulgee County Undersheriff Fred McGuire Jr. wrote in a news release Thursday that deputies responded shortly before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to the courthouse at 314 W 7. He said the bomb threat was called into the clerk’s office.

Deputies evacuated all occupants from the building and conducted an inspection with the assistance from the Tulsa police bomb squad and K-9 teams, McGuire said. No explosive device was found inside the building, he said.

At 1 p.m., the courthouse was deemed safe and reopened. The Okmulgee County sheriff’s office, the Okmulgee County District Attorney’s office, and the police department are currently working on several leads. If you have information about this crime, call the sheriff’s office at 918-756-4311.
