Occupants escape injury after car crashes into Warr Acres home
A car crashed into a Warr Acres house about 3 a.m. Thursday. Four people were asleep inside and awoke with a hole in their home.
Reporter Robert Medley reports:
Mitchel Watan, 25, who police said was the driver of the car, had already fled on foot by the time the residents of the house smelled the gasoline fumes and an odor of burning plastic.
A Bethany police officer who had been pursuing Watan ran after the driver and arrested him nearby on complaints of eluding police, driving under the influence of alcohol and assault on a police officer, said Bethany police Lt. Chris Culbreath.
The pursuit started when an officer saw a 1992 white Pontiac Bonneville traveling about 70 mph on N Rockwell Avenue, police said. The car hit a car in the driveway and went over the top of it before landing in the house.
