Fund set up for Blanchard woman who shot, killed intruder
Since Sunday, I’ve received emails from people across the county who are interested in donating money to an 18-year-old woman in Blanchard who shot and killed a home intruder Saturday.
Sarah McKinley was at home alone with her 3-month-old son when the home invasion occurred. NewsOK reports:
Dustin Louis Stewart, 29, of Blanchard, was about to enter the home of Sarah McKinley, along with Justin Shane Martin, 24, of Blanchard, when McKinley shot Martin Saturday.
The Blanchard police department has set up a fund for Sarah McKinley at Chickasha Bank &Trust in Blanchard. The address is 1525 N Council Hwy 76, Blanchard, OK 73010, and the phone number is 405-485-2300. Anyone wishing to make a donation should ask for Leah.
NewsOK staff will continue to follow this story as it progresses. Reporter Juliana Keeping was told Wednesday by a Grady County prosecutor that Stewart could face a murder charge in the case.

Wow!!!! What a brave young lady. I am soooo happy she was able to defend herself and the baby. It is about time we stand up to these scumbags and let them know we mean business and are not sitting ducks. I hope the other scumbag gets the death penalty.
Sarah makes me proud to call Oklahoma my home. Giving her son a bottle, calling, then staying on the line with 911, getting her 12 gauge, and waiting to see what developed is about as straight forward an example of a well thought out plan as I can imagine.
Someone with a good amount of money needs to find out if there’s an education she’d like to get…and provide it.

did I miss something—didn’t the article say that the other criminal could be charged with murder…not the homeowner? score one for the right to keep and bear arms…..and rest assured, many of us would follow suit under the castle doctrine…..

Murder charge? Someone at the Prosecutor’s office must be kidding. I hope that’s just a rumor that goes nowhere. That would be insane.
OK, re-read the story. The other crook getting charged iwht murder makes sense as his actions contributed to the death while he was in the commission of a crime. Good call by the Prrosecutor’s office I hope they lock the other burglar under the jail.
Oklahoma Law says if 2 or more people are in the act of committing a felony and one gets murdered, even though you were committing a felony crime with your friend and he ends up dead, you can be charged with his murder. It’s the law and has always been the law. It pays to know the law.
WTF? Earlier reports said she was in her legal right to shoot the home invader. The 911 operator told her to do what she must to save her child.

This girl has Skills! I picture her saying to herself.”Lets see, Answer door, call police, get baby his ba-ba, have conversation with police dispatcher, shoot intruder, dang that just screwed up the rest of my day” You gotta love the ability to multi-task.

Just sent off my donation towards Sarah’s fund. How sad to lose her husband and go through those emotions and then deal with some low life. Way to go Sarah.. though I am not for killing anyone.. sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. I was involved in something like this one day. I did not have to shoot because they left the porch, but I was told by the police officer that if it came down to it to make sure they step through the door before I was to shoot. Then it would be defending myself and my property. I hope Sarah’s fund will help her and her son have the life they deserve. One that is safe too.
Sarah, you have a calm voice and cool head while calling 911. You also have the guts to follow through with action. I think you are suitable for law enforcement/emergency response type of job if that interests you. How about become a K9 police dog trainer since you love German shepherd? I also think finish high school with help of public school system might open the door for all other training opportunities. Some school have teen mom program. There are also WIC and children first program from State Department of Health. DHS has child care subsidy program. Please get help from family and friends. I wish you understand your mom more while caring your son though sleepless nights. The loving people will help you with donations but donations will come and go. Sarah, You did the right thing. You did not let yourself become a victom and you protected you baby and kept a cool head. I have three daughters and I have taught them how to handle a shogun. If they are ever in life threatening situation, I hope they can keep a cool head and act, just as did. I am so sorry about the loss of your husband. I agree with the others, use the money you recieve from the other caring people from around the world and further your education. Good luck dear.
Well I hope not. She is a brave young lady and i am glad she and her baby are ok. She should consider moving to a safer state if she has the means to do so. Consider the following about Oklahoma:

Sarah, I hope you actually read all these comments and feel capable and strong, not guilty. I, and I am sure many or all others, am so in awe of the calm, level-headed resolution you have exhibited at such a young age. It is very rare. No doubt it is because you already have been through so much for one so young. God bless ya, darlin.
Why are folks sending money? There’s no need! The DA has already said there are no charges to be filed. She was in the right to shoot the invader. She will never be charged with anything! What don’t you all understand about the “Castle Doctrine?”
Hey CountryGun – Correct she is not charged (good for her that she does not live in LA, New York, or D.C.) but she does need a new couch and door at the very least.
People are sending money to help her because she is an 18 year old single Mother who lost her husband to cancer on Christmas day, and now has had to go through this terrible trauma. Honestly, if I were well off, I’d see to it that she had the financial support to provide for her to be a full time Mom for the next few years, followed by continued financial support for top quality childcare and the college education of her choice for her.
After what she’s gone through in her short life, she more than deserves it.
I will make as sizable donation as I can, and I hope everybody else does as well. There’s strength in numbers. Don’t just read these words and think about it. Do it. Do it now!
And, as several people have pointed out, and as the article stated, Sarah is not being charged with anything. It’s the other felon who is possibly being charged with murder. When somebody – even your fellow criminal – dies while you are committing a felony, you can be charged with first degree murder. I like that law.
The local police that supposedly ‘investigated’ this entire murder case in less than 24 hours, and somehow cleared a major case and announced a full conclusion in this short time without any other investigation,
is now RUNNING the charity to benefit one of the Participants in a case they are supposed to be investigating as unbiased, impartial law enforcement?????
How are the Police going to make a case in court that they did their job thoroughly and dilligently against the man they charged with murder, if within only 72 hours of the the shooting, the local police are running a charity for one of the parties involved in this case???
These police are not very smart or competent and are eager to identify with one of the parties publicly as her champion instead of simply acting as uninvolved parties- this verges on misconduct.
Let a private party, or some sort of house of worship set up a fund for this girl. When the police charged with investigating the case impartially are running a charity for the shooter within 72 hours, it really does not look like they are very impartial, and this is how you lose a case very fast in court and lose the trust of the public.
