Murphy says thanks
“I feel incredibly grateful to the voters of Oklahoma for selecting me, based on my qualifications and experience,” said Dana Murphy, with about 90 percent of the state’s precincts reporting. “I wanted to give Oklahomans somebody to vote for, not to vote against.”
“We always knew it was going to be a tight race,” Roth said. “We worked very hard.”

It is true that Oklahoma is “mired in fear and superstition”. It is not entirely true “that people proved they can finally overlook race” with Obama’s victory. Many thousands of African-Americans voted for Obama simply becasue he was African-American, irreguardless of the issues.
funny, i don’t remember murphy running any ads about roth’s sinful lifestyle. and by the way most people do not view homosexual acts as the behavior of an ethical person. i rejoice in murphy’s victory. at least one state still sees through the deception.
It ‘s a very unfortunate for Oklahoma to lose an unbiased leader in the Corporation Commission. Oklahoma hasn’t seen the last of Jim Roth. Oklahoma needs an honest leader helping it into the future.
Thankfully we have two other commissioners sitting next to her to ensure she does the right thing. Never trust a blond who won’t look you the face when she talking to you.
Murphy won by playing the gay card — no more, no less. Jim Roth has been a wonderful County Commissioner and a superb Corporation Commissioner. Sadly, rural Oklahoma is still so mired in fear and superstition that it can’t see the forest for the trees. As a result, a fine man such as Jim Roth sees defeat, while victory is handed to the unethical and bigoted likes of Dana Murphy.
Senator Obama’s win gave me great hope for the nation last night, as the American people proved that they can finally overlook race and see instead the citizen running. Commissioner Roth’s loss, though, saddens me beyond words, as his was a narrow loss in a narrow minded state — yes, a loss based not upon credentials, but upon that which is wholly irrelevant.
