Final update

7 p.m.

Behlen was in serious condition at OU Medical Center’s trauma center. He has been downgraded to critical condition.

He pushed through the hospital room’s pivoting window and went over the edge. Photographs show a deputy trying to push the window closed to keep Behlen inside, and Sheriff John Whetsel says the deputy fired a Taser device at Behlen twice, but was unsuccessful at shocking him.

Behlen fell about 30 feet onto the roof of a two-story building. He was aware and conscious as emergency workers approached.

That Whetsel guy doesn’t like sport bike riders at all!

The sick “rednecks” and mindless “losers” seem to attach themselves like maggots to tragedies like this not knowing any of the circumstances. Bob Behlen’s deceased brother was my brother-in-law and I knew 40 years ago of the physical abuse they went through as children destroying their self-esteem and warping their lives forever. With a German father named Adolph (seriously) and a timid alcoholic mother, the Behlen children didn’t have the loving foundational upbringing that most normal people have. Bob has 3 great sons18 and under who have computers and read the trash some put out on their father. Have compassion on them and be supportive not condemning. The comment from the idiot who asked, “How high did he bounce?” has major issues himself or herself to be politically correct. This is our extended family’s tragedy. Do you sick people call up the relatives listed in obituaries and harass them? May God Forgive you for what you have done! And remember your audacity and lack of forgiveness when you reach your day of immense emotional pain and are all alone with your gun shoved down your throat, thinking it is the only solution to stop the hurt! Those who criticize are very small and ignorant people!

Wow someone asked how high did he bounce? I’m pretty sure people don’t bounce when they fall, they just break.

Nevermind, you do bounce if you fall from a high enough place. He’s very lucky to be alive though going head first!

Jamie,
You are at least learning sick humor in 6th grade. And you have learned to talk and ask questions like those “dumb blondes” adults so often make fun of. Like, Duh, girl! Go back to your homework and your tatooed boyfriend with the nose ring (also tatooed) who is still wondering why he can’t find a good job. Maybe, you will grow up somneday to be a coroner as you seem to have such an avid interest in CSI stuff. You probaly need the dictionary to look up “avid”. In fact you may need to look up “coroner” and other words as you don’t sound that educated. For God’s sake don’t ask your boyfriend!

I’d jump too if I had to wear one of those gowns. I was there and saw him jump, it was tragic. I mean it was an overall good program with some surprises but I was shocked that he couldn’t pull off the last half twist. I would have given him a higher score. So far judges-
9.9 9.8 9.3 9.9 9.5

Let me get this straight. A man with obvious problems is standing on a ledge, and he is threatening to jump. So a couple of guys from the sheriff’s department brandish their trusty tasers and rush the man, so he jumps. It is time to take away the tasers. They are not toys, and this isn’t Star Trek. Do you fellows roam the county in search of folks to zap? It also wouldn’t hurt to provide elementary training for these peace officers when they are faced with a potential suicide attempt. Oh, and while you’re at it, sheriff, remind the guards to guard the prisoner in the first place. Mr. Behlen needs help and treatment for his addiction. Neither tasering nor tasteless jokes are useful. I wish him and his family the best during this difficult time.

You shouldn’t make fun of the sick but unfortunatley you have to have a sense of humor to deal with some of this. Do you really think that the cops that were there aren’t laughing. I can gurantee you that they are. Whether or not that is right is up to the individual to decide. It’s not really black or white. If he had died then of course any humor would be unjustified (and not everyone would agree with that). You have to laugh about it and someday I hope he can too, it would serve him better Ken.

Thanks Tron,

Thanks Tron,
Being so close to the situation, I cansee irony but not humor at this point. Comedy is defined as tragedy plus time in many circles. There may be a point where there is an awesome recovery and Bob and all of us can laugh at the crazy stuff. But drug and alcohol addiction is serious stuff. There are always victims other than the addict. You and Randall are far ahead of the pack in thatunderstanding and respect for human life. Thank you for your comments! I would like to see more positve comments from the “silent majority” out there to reflect the compassion and caring of real Oklahomans!

I was not such a lucky child to have all the love either, raped and alone more then once. But let me tell you, LIFE GOES ON, feeling sorry for myself would never have gotten me this far, I have come very close to death my own self and know the hurt of my past, but it is exactly that. As I am an adult I am responsible for the descisions I make and cannot blame my abusers for what they did to me, it’s time people face the fact that we all, abused or not, will have to answer for what we do and take resposibility for who we become, stop blaming the past and leave it exactly there. This man obviously needs help but he should be grateful to have children of his own and to be a survivor for them and himself.

Ken, Tron, C…
I want to thank you all first of all for being who you are… and standing up for truth and reality in this.. even such a dire circumstance…
I… reading this don’t even know where to begin… It is about time that this world got a little taste of reality… the rest of the world.. who lives in ignorance and stay passive to the monstrosities that occur daily all around us will soon be awakened to the facts… authority is not responsible enough for such tools… as simple as a stun gun… I hope soon they are taken away… cruel and unusual… but to this world what are laws anyway… if you have the means to avoid them… there is NO comedy in this tragedy… when He recovers… I’m sure Bob will reference these events with a chuckle on his breath… But that is a time and form of recovery… not mockery… anyone who gives anyone in his family grief or any inconvenience in the least they are inhumane… and at this point and time i would consider them less than human… I hope that when something happens to them.. where they are alone… they meet someone like themselves to show them… how evil they really are… and when that happens I too hope they change…
Times are dire now… darkness seems to be growing… but there is a light on the horizon… time will heal these wounds… with or without the immature comments of the rodents of this world…
May the cycle of this chaos come to a calm… for their sake.
